Welcome back to THRASS
GOES LIVE! and the next stage of our exciting journey from MPUMALANGA to MILTON
KEYNES.
Follow our journey by
tuning in to our regular videostreams from locations in South Africa and the UK.
Watch children learn as they use THRASS for the first time and see how impressed
the Third Year Foundation Phase student teachers are.
We now leave the Farm
Schools and the Kwena Basin THRASS Project and head for a two day certificate
course and a keynote address for the National Union of Educators (NUE) at the
University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. Here Dr Jean Place, Principal
Tutor at the University, introduces Alan Davies as a true professional whose
enthusiasm inspires all who come into contact with him and whose respect for
children, students and teachers and ability to challenge, to risk, to be
flexible and to empower his learners set him in a class of his own.
And what did the NUE
members think about the course?
“This was a brilliantly
presented course. We were enthralled, educated and entertained. This is, as a
speech therapist, the system I have always wanted.”
“If all educators could do
the course as compulsory, it could only benefit children and lessen illiteracy
among learners.”
“You are going to be
responsible for helping many, many South Africans in life and their futures.”
“Thank you to Wits and Dr
Place for bringing Alan Davies to South Africa and making us aware of THRASS and
its success.”
“I am left feeling guilty
about nearly 30 years of teaching 26 letter sounds in the alphabet. This will
solve the reading problems in our country.”
And these were only some
of the comments made.
“We shall be back shortly with the next instalment
of THRASS GOES LIVE! when we shall have coverage of the UK delegation of head
teachers and advisers visiting the Kwena Basin Farm Schools.”
