Welcome back to
THRASS GOES LIVE! and the next stage of our exciting journey from MPUMALANGA to
MILTON KEYNES.
Follow our journey
by tuning in to our regular videostreams from locations in South Africa and the
UK. See how quickly children learn as they use THRASS and see how impressed the
party of educators from the UK, Ghana and South Africa are.
Last month we joined
the Third Year Foundation Phase student teachers from the University of the
Witwatersrand in Johannesburg on their visit to the Kwena Basin Farm Schools
taking part in the Kwena Basin Project. We saw how impressed they were by their
own ability to use THRASS and by the speed at which the children learnt. We also
saw how much the children enjoyed using the THRASS resources.
We now return to the
Kwena Basin with a group of educators from the UK, Ghana and South Africa. We
meet them at Johannesburg International Airport and accompany them on their
four-hour drive through the spectacular scenery of the Kwena Basin to the Farm
Schools that are many miles from the main road. (Kwena is the Sotho name for
‘crocodile’ and it is named after the Crocodile River that runs through the
Basin.)
We see the party
meeting the children and teachers at Umthombopholile, Impala, Phakama and
Spoelklippies schools for the first time and starting to get to know the
children as they briefly join them in their lessons. As on the earlier visit we
are struck by the happy faces of the children and how much they are enjoying
learning.
We leave the group
deciding where each of them will work and look forward to Day 2 of their visit
when we will see them teaching in the schools.
