With thanks to Oxley Park Primary School, Christ the Sower Primary School, ITV News, SMART Technologies, Kwena Basin Farm Schools, the 'UK Team' of heads and deputies, Dr Jean Place and the student teachers from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.

THRASS is the phonics programme adopted by Oxley Park Primary as a whole school. It teaches children about the building blocks of reading and spelling. Children focus on developing a full understanding of the 44 phonemes (speech sounds) of spoken English and the graphemes (spelling choices) of written English.

OXLEY PARK PRIMARY SCHOOL VIDEO DIARY

Oxley Park Primary School in Milton Keynes is a THRASS ‘Centre of Excellence’ and, although it has only been open since September 2005, it has already established itself as an outstanding school. The 2007 OFSTED inspection of the school found that progress made by the pupils was exceptional and that, although children are entering the school with standards below the national norm, they leave with standards well above.

The videos listed below show the development of the use of THRASS in the school: the teachers learning how to use THRASS, parents attending the THRASS Accredited Certificate for Parents, the first THRASS Christmas at the school and demonstration lessons using the THRASS Phoneme Machine.

The THRASS Goes LIVE! videos show teachers from Oxley Park visiting schools in South Africa, where, just as at Oxley Park, the children are learning so quickly using THRASS. There is also coverage of the return visit of student teachers from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg to Oxley Park and other primary schools in the UK.
