Could the Phoneme Rap on tape be slower? |
The Phoneme Rap is at the pace which is the end
product - the required outcome. There is lots of repetition and parents of
two-year-olds tell me that their children happily sing-along with their older
brothers and sisters. The 2-3-7 rhythm is the same for the pictures
(Grapheme-Word Rap), the names (Letter Name Rap) and the phonemes (Consonant
Phoneme Rap and Vowel Phoneme Rap). It is expected that this 'Pattern Sequential
Skill' can be first taught, if necessary, by the children doing the rap by
saying the phonemes with (or just after) the teacher/assistant and then building
up to doing more and more (as the phonemes and sequences become more familiar).
It is also expected that the 'slow' spoken sequences will also be used, with the
child first saying the phonemes after, then with and then, eventually, before
the soundtrack. The raps and sequences are now available on a CD, the Raps and
Sequences CD, and many teachers have reported that both they and the children
find it much easier to use the CD (with 33 separate tracks) than the more
'out-dated' audio tape. The instrumental tracks are very popular and, if
desirable, the same '2-3-7 segment' may be chanted several times in succession
using the same soundtrack e.g. the Grapheme-Word Rap sequence “bird, rabbit;
bird, rabbit, cat; bird, rabbit, cat, kitten, duck, school, queen” and any of
the other keyword, name or phoneme ‘2-3-7 segments’.
