Is
there an updated “THRASS-IT” in the pipeline? If so, could there be
a picturechart on it? Our school has come across problems with more
than one class using it at the same time – any solutions? |
THRASS-IT does not need to be updated. It is
already good and I have seen several brilliant lessons recently with THRASS-IT
being used on interactive whiteboards. The aim of THRASS is to get the learners
to move away from the yellow Picturechart and to visualise the blue
Graphemechart (and to only refer to the pictures/words when discussing phonemic
and graphemic possibilities with others). The Graphemechart is already included
in THRASS-IT with the added bonus that all the pictures (and associated
phonemes) can be activated by clicking/touching the relevant graphemes. Every
one of the 'THRASS 10' stages can be assessed using THRASS-IT and, from my
experience, the software is not used enough by teachers/assistants to give
children independent experience. Far from THRASS-IT needing to be updated, it is
more that people need to be taught to use it more! (especially as it involves
children in their own assessment and gives clear independent evidence of the
progress that is being made - all the more so if, as is recommended in the
guide, the activities are done as timed activities and these times are recorded
for comparison and discussion).
"Problems with more than one class using it at the same time" - to my knowledge
we have not had one such question worldwide. Please contact THRASS (UK) about this
and I am sure that our technical advisers will be able to comment on this. Does
this happen with other software on your particular system? It may be a local
configuration problem not a THRASS-IT problem?
