GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

Can THRASS be started at any age or is it best at KS1 and then built on later?

THRASS can be started at any age. Information on implementation is given on page 15 and photocopiable sheet S1. Generally, speaking older children (or adults) start with T8 Keygrapheme Recall and the rest of the Profilecard outcomes are completed as, and if, necessary. For example, having learned the sixteen keygraphemes on the top row (C1) and their associated keywords (Keyword Recall), a teacher might decide to focus on speaking and listening skills (T1), the naming of letters (T2), handwriting (T3), the naming of graphemes (T4), articulation of the phonemes (T6), synthesis (T7), analysis (T9) or the reading and spelling of Hotwords/Basewords. For most older learners it would not be necessary, given success at T8 to do T5 Keyword Location or T1 Picture Location (unless the learner had poor speaking and listening skills, had intellectual difficulties or was, perhaps, learning English as an additional language)
