GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

How does the THRASS programme
deal with handwriting?

In THRASS, Letter Formation is Stage 3 (of ten stages). In the teaching guide, T-50 TEACHING THRASS, the guidance text and pictures can be found on pages 38-43 (six pages of large A3). Generally speaking, handwriting is used to reinforce the learning of the phonemes (sounds) and graphemes (spelling choices) of English.

There is a good section on page 40, headed THREE FORMS OF WRITING, where it is stated that, "Learners should be able to write printed lower-case letters, printed capital letters and they should be able, when appropriate, to overwrite the same printed lower-case letters to produce a joined script (cursive)."
