SOUND IT OUT!
"If in doubt, SOUND IT OUT!"
If a child is unable to read a word, schools advise parents to help their child ‘sound it out’, by using letter sounds and not the names of letters. ALAN DAVIES, KEYNOTE SPEAKER
SOUTH AFRICAN PRINCIPALS' ASSOCIATION NATIONAL CONFERENCE

SAPA

The South African Principals’ Association is an organisation of school leaders committed to providing professional development and personal growth. We receive no funding from the State and all our programmes are self-funded by educators. The organisation is active in all nine Provinces. Our current President is Alta van Heerden. She is also the Principal of Sunlands Primary School in Cape Town.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE

It is essential to create an opportunity for School Leaders to gather once a year from all over the country to share ideas and grow professionally. Every year one Province is given the task to present the National Conference. The Western Cape loves to host leadership conferences. We hold an annual conference for teachers and principals.

ALAN DAVIES - THRASS (UK)

Executive Director of THRASS UK, Alan Davies, will address Principals on the Literacy Dilemma.
The THRASS phonics programme is enjoying considerable success in Africa where it has been welcomed as heralding the start of a new era in the teaching of English in Africa. THRASS is being used with children of all abilities from all types of backgrounds and in all types of schools: government schools such as Farm Schools in the Kwena Basin in the province of Mpumalanga, township schools in Orange Farm, Johannesburg and prestigious independent schools in several provinces.
Alan is a dynamic keynote speaker. His wife, Hilary, will lead a breakaway session during the Conference.
