GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS ACCREDITED CERTIFICATE, KZN, SOUTH AFRICA, JAN 22-23, 2005

Portable Document Format

Great way to start the year with excellent, logical information presented with passion and enthusiasm. Thank you for your inspiration.

Fantastic. I graduated last year, and can honestly say that in my four years of training I never learnt as much about teaching children to read, write and spell as I have in the past two days. I can’t wait to try this with my class.

What a wonderful idea! Very informative course that I think will change the course of teaching worldwide! Finally, children will be able to learn phonics, reading, handwriting and spelling with ease and it is great that everyone can benefit, even those who have special needs. Thank you so much for your amazing insights.

Having two presenters was great and I cannot wait to work with our pupils tomorrow. It makes a whole lot of sense and your bubbly personalities make it such fun!

Great! A brilliant approach that will meet the needs of our kids. Well presented, informative, but highly entertaining.

Very thorough explanation as to how THRASS works. A lot of ground was covered in the two days – enough to educate us in the implementation of the programme without overloading.

Fantastic. Thanks for changing our lives this weekend! I wish I was teaching spelling in a class, but I will use it anyway. I started out on Saturday pretty muddled, but feel I really know what’s going on now.

As a therapist, this is what we have been waiting for! Your presentation was excellent and thorough in each section and stage. I do feel that for some, they would require more work in the analysis section – as therapists, we spent so much time on the actual sound analysis. I believe, as you said, that we are now empowered to assist our children in hearing and seeing what is happening in a word. I can’t wait to implement and see the results.

Very interesting course which was well-delivered and with great enthusiasm! The focus on synthesis and analysis will be helpful to teachers, esp. the correct articulation of sounds and an awareness of digraphs. This is very much how we are working to remediate reading and spelling difficulties. I like the whole language approach with work on vocabulary, categorisation etc built in.

Absolutely amazing. What a fantastic course over the two days. I have really learnt a lot, I feel a lot more confident and it was so worthwhile. Thank you very much.

It has opened my mind to new, greater horizons! I really enjoyed the two-day course. Have really learnt a lot!

Very informative. The presentation was very enjoyable. A few concepts which I did not grasp during two years of university English suddenly made sense!

Excellent course. Really makes it easier to teach more difficult sounds to children. A solution to many reading, spelling and phonic problems that some children have.

An amazing course. This has been an eye-opener and you have presented my mother tongue in such a logical way that has challenged me to try and go and do likewise. I’m particularly interested in using this in an ESL setting as I have a TESOL certificate from UK, but the grammar overload and difficult lingo related to learning what our language entails was boggling. This I wish I had when I taught in China – now we will have fun using it here!

A well-presented course. It has given me a definite programme which will help children who have difficulty with part/whole perception and letter sequencing. Lovely visual aids, which I look forward to using in therapy sessions.

Very interesting and enlightening!

It’s been great – dealing with all the issues I’ve found with which children have problems. Thanks a million!

Follows good principles and develops good understanding for learning phonics. There was a lot of repetition on first day. I will definitely apply this in my work with individuals within the school … and my own family and friends!

Found the course very interesting and sometimes very entertaining. Lots of food for thought. The course has put a lot of things into perspective – excited to implement it into our school.

Excellent! Thank you so much. I really believe this is going to work. Wonderful to have spent time with you both.

Thank you for this amazing revolution, Alan. I feel totally inspired, excited and refreshed about teaching children to read, write and spell! I am equally inspired to help those in my family whose skills are inadequate! Thank you for empowering us and the incredible effort you have put into this system. I salute you!

Great. Thank you. Interesting and inspiring!

A fantastic course and ideas. As a first year teacher I feel more confident about going into the classroom and being able to teach the children to read, write and spell. I am looking forward to using this concept.

Very interesting and informative. A wonderful new approach. Very inspirational. Wonderful course materials.

Great! So many issues/questions were cleared up. I am raring to go and so excited to have context to what I’ve been trying to work out re phonetics. Presentation was always exciting and humorous. I will definitely be promoting this course and teaching method.

Excellent presentation. Brilliant to see how much throught went into the programme and how with a bit of creative thinking, spelling and reading can be brought to life! From a therapy point of view – we have so much to work with.

I loved every minute. Thank you Alan & Laola for coming to our school. Wish you every success. I feel so empowered and also privileged to have been here.

Wonderful and interesting. I have learnt so much from THRASS. It meant a lot to me.

I really enjoyed it. It gave me a lot of information about handwriting, consonants and vowels and pronunciation.

Very informative – relieved to know I am not ‘odd’ for refusing to use Letterland! A lot to take in but excited to start the new approach. Much discussion and debating ahead.

Hopefully we have learnt not to teach Annie Apple, but to CELEBRATE and EMPOWER the children. Thank you so much for a wonderful and enlightening course. Wonderful.

Fantastic. Excited about getting started with both my class and own children.

Very interesting. It challenged old ideas and teaching practices and made “all the bits” fit together. Looking forward to starting the programme.

Very informative. Has made sense as to why so many children battle with reading and spelling. Looking forward to implementing this in our school.

Very interesting! I thoroughly enjoyed this course. It has opened my eyes to the importance of teaching phonics correctly – and the importance of doing it from an early age.

Very worthwhile – has given order to information that was previously confusing. Has made me more enthusiastic about my teaching. Quite mind-boggling too – but I will be spurned on to consolidate it. Very entertaining with extremely well-thought-through material that will empower me to empower the children. Thanks for that gift!

Exciting, challenging. Just what we have been looking for - a map to teach writing, spelling, language and reading skills, celebrating achievements, being brave about mistakes and having fun doing it all. Thank you!

Wow! What an excellent course. The children will definitely benefit from THRASS as much as I have. I hope that one day this will be implemented in all schools across South Africa. Fantastic.

A wonderfully informative two days. Looking forward to many fun-filled days of teaching THRASS in the classroom.
