I
thoroughly enjoyed the course. The system makes such sense and helps put things
into perspective. I look forward to using it in the classroom. Thank you very
much for sharing it with us.
Extremely informative and useful to use in and out of the classroom. Well
presented by all presenters. I will definitely use what I've learnt in my
classroom.
A valuable experience - it brought together many of the aspects of teaching,
reading and spelling, particularly linking the phoneme and the choice of
graphemes. THRASS makes sense! The presentations were well paced, clear in
explanation and enjoyable. Thankyou.
Highly interesting, very thought provoking. Could have listened for another two
days! Can't wait to try this very different logical approach to literacy. A
follow-up session would be of benefit. So much to absorb. Lots to try. Wonderful
to have so many options to assist the many difficulties that are present in our
learner group.
I thoroughly enjoyed the THRASS workshop. It was very entertaining but most
importantly I've gained a wealth of knowledge about reading, spelling and
handwriting. I am indeed eager to start implementing this system firstly in my
own classroom and secondly with my own children. Thank you for a most
informative two days. We'd love for you to visit next year and see how far we
have come with THRASS.
A perfect exercise in shifting Mindsets in order to make learning easier/ less
complicated. Good skills to use for consolidation of new concepts thereby
improving child's self esteem. Learners will be less afraid to take risks as
many of our learners experience performance anxiety. Love idea of student
mentoring and have found this practice very successful so far.
Excellent - makes sense. I would have liked a bit more time spent on the vowel
chart. I found the sounds hard.
THRASS makes wonderful sense. From an Occupational Therapist's point of view, I
particularly appreciate the visual sequential memory. Handwriting and
kinaesthetic aspects. It is an integrative approach. Thankyou!
An intensive course with a great deal to think about. Very well presented. Will
give children a mind map to use for life.
Really enjoyable. Thankyou for a very interesting course. It has really given me
"food for thought".
Informative - in depth - dynamic. Volume of information overwhelming but worth
"getting into". Eager to practice, yet apprehensive about getting it right.
Concern: our learners go back to mainstream in two years - will they not be
disadvantaged?
Very interesting course. Brought a whole new perspective to teaching -
especially Grade 1. A bit sad to throw away "Letterland". Motivated to begin
teaching "THRASS" with all the classroom resources. Will possibly need refresher
courses at some stage in the future. Anyway I am very tired. Thank you for your
time.
Very informative and really challenging. Definitely a way forward to a new
approach to teaching handwriting, reading and spelling. Thankyou for an
enjoyable course.
Thankyou for a very interesting and informative course. Have learnt a great
deal, will have to re-teach myself and my class especially with q-u-ee-n.
Wow! A whole new look! Amazing! However, I do believe your
reading/spelling/handwriting programme is only as good as its teacher. You, Alan
are an outstanding teacher. Your enthusiasm will teach any child to read.
Informative, energetic, motivating, well-organised, practical and to the point.
Well done! I am excited and eager to get started. Thankyou.
Thank you very much for a most informative and intelligent presentation. I
really enjoyed the two days BUT we will need you to come back. I am very excited
about starting THRASS with the children I teach.
Excellent, refreshing and empowering. A vital tool, long overdue. Thankyou!
I enjoyed this, but felt Day 2 was too rushed.
It was a very good course for Junior Primary and Intermediate Primary School
teachers but I did not see how it could be implemented in the Senior Grade of
school in a mixed ability class where there are good spellers and only a few
weak spellers. How do you stop good teenage spellers from feeling that it is
silly to be reading words like 'cat' etc? Also, we don't have time to spare as
we have so much work to cover in the curriculum.
Thank you for a most stimulating two days course; challenging old set methods -
but you have made perfect sense, affirming many ideas and thoughts I have 'felt'
in the past. Based on metacognition -absolutely the way to go. We definitely
want to expand the knowledge to our parents when we feel a little more confidant
about our practice. The combination of modalities will involve the A.D.H.D.
child, too. We are very excited to start!
It was great having taught in Birmingham inner city schools with poor language,
reading and accent. This programme makes sense. Thankyou. I'm looking forward to
rapping away a.s.a.p.
I thought that this course was absolutely great. I was quite ignorant about
teaching phonics previously, but now I feel confident that I will do an
excellent job. Thanks a million for a great course.
A new approach to spelling and reading which is highly integrated and wholistic
- the answer to the intense demand on application, metacognitive skills so vital
in this post-modern world of information and technology. Thankyou.
Thank you so much for sharing/teaching us so much. It has been an enjoyable,
interesting and most informative two days. I hope we can do THRASS justice. I'll
do my best. Well done!
Loved your enthusiasm. Not enough superlatives. Thankyou! I'm inspired. Realised
that children have learnt to read in spite of me. You have thought of
everything. I can't believe it. Beautifully presented.
The course is very interesting. I really learnt a lot. Would like to familiarise
myself and do it more. Thank you so much for your time. Have a great journey
back home.
I am delighted, enthused and confused all in one. When I settle and use all this
amazing information, I will be a more effectual teacher of reading and spelling
than I have been all these past years. Thank you for opening my eyes! I am going
to be a fantastic granny! Thank you for the map.
I thoroughly enjoyed your course and can't wait to get back in class to get
going on this way of teaching Handwriting, reading and spelling. Excellent
presentation. Thank you.
An amazing course! All sessions were presented in much an interesting, exciting
way. A lot to absorb but am eager to start! I feel rather daunted as to how to
actually begin and am unsure as to what equipment we will be getting and how we
will change our teaching methods, i.e. do we still use the same phonic workbooks
etc.? Thanks for a very inspiring two days! Looking forward to putting into
practice.
Wonderful, so inspiring. I just know I have to change my teaching immediately as
I have always introduced alphabet sounds at first. Quite an adjustment after 30
years or so! I wish I could witness some lessons in a school that is
successfully using THRASS - will definitely have to visit other schools.
Thankyou for such an exciting presentation.
Very clearly presented. Not all talk. Interaction good. Glad to have charts
which sum up the method I have used up to now. Mistakes I have made are now
clarified. Things I have done right have been affirmed and I will continue to
do. Thankyou. Have fun with all others you teach. Establish a factory for
material here.
Very good indeed. Organisation and presentation clear with necessary modelling.
Took an interest in remembering participant's names, addressing them personally.
Well done. A brilliantly thought out programme, well resourced. Brought in many
of my ideas which I have used but in a very structured way, e.g. names and not
sounds of letters for spelling. Thankyou very much. Have a good trip home!
This course is fantastic! I feel cheated that I grew up with lies about
spelling/phonics etc. but so excited to set people free with the truth in
THRASS. Thank you for your energy, enthusiasm and expertise! Wow! I can't wait
to empower the children with THRASS. The course was fun and informative.
Excellent presenters, presenting a brilliant way of teaching, reading and
writing.
