Using the grid
Use the THRASS ROW, BOX AND NUMBER GRID
with your learners, to locate the phoneme-box and the picture,
keyword or keygrapheme on the class-size (T-02) and desk-size (T-03)
THRASS Picturechart.
The answer for the phoneme /s/ would be
"Row C3, Box 3". For the picture or keyword 'ice' or the keygrapheme
'c' 'e', add "Picture Number 5", "Keyword Number 5" or "Keygrapheme
Number 5". That is, the picture for ice would be “Row C3, Box 3,
Picture Number 3”.
With partners, groups or classes have
your learners ask such questions as: "If the RBN is Row V3 , Box 2
and Keygrapheme 3, what is the keygrapheme?" Answer: 'i' 'g' 'h' (as
can be seen in the word light).
Encourage your learners to fill-in the
blank grid ‘Q’ (Questions) before checking the answers on grid ‘A’
(Answers), perhaps by someone reading out the correct answers to a
group or class.
Play Make-A-Word
Try playing the game MAKE-A-WORD. “If the
RBN coordinates are V1-B6-2, C3-B3-1, C3-B6-1, what is the word?”
Answers: ea-s-t, s-ea-t or ea-t-s (but not ‘teas’, as the ‘s’
represents the sound /z/, as in the keyword laser C4-B6-4).
