GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

OXLEY PARK PARENTS ACHIEVE
200 LANDMARK

5 December 2009

Congratulations are indeed due to Oxley Park Primary School, Milton Keynes, England and especially to parents there, as the school has just become the first THRASS school to achieve the landmark of 200 parents completing the THRASS Accredited Certificate for Parents.

Since it opened in September 2005, Oxley Park Primary School has become a THRASS 'Centre of Excellence' and the 2007 OFSTED inspection of the school found that progress made by the pupils was exceptional: although children were entering the school with standards below the national norm, they were leaving with standards well above, and their progress in reading and writing was well above average.

This is confirmation of the extremely important role that parents can play in helping their children to learn to read, write and spell, as Cathy Higgins, head teacher at Oxley Park has always known :

"Our ethos of 'Every Child Matters' can only be fully realised by the involvement of Parents in the education of their children. To that end the Accredited Certificates and training provided by THRASS UK are a great help for every child learning to read, write and spell, and also for their parents."

More than 30 parents attended the very first Oxley Park THRASS Accredited Certificate for Parents course held in September 2005 and a further 55 parents attended in 2006. This led to further well-attended Accredited Certificate courses at the school in 2007, 2008 and, most recently, November 2009, bringing the total of parents who have attended to over 200!

The full story of Oxley Park Primary School, from its opening in 2005 to the present day, can be found in the many videos on the THRASS website and also on Oxley Park Primary School’s own website.
