GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS  TWO-DAY CERTIFICATE,
KZN, SOUTH AFRICA, JULY 22-23, 2005

Portable Document Format

This has been a most inspiring and enlightening course. I came with some reservations because I didn’t have the “whole picture” – quite literally. I am confident that we can implement THRASS in our school. I am very excited to get started. Laola’s presentation was clear and her enthusiasm was contagious.

This course has awakened my language and literacy knowledge! I have really enjoyed the two days training and am inspired to include the programme in my teaching. Thank you for a wonderfully enlightening course.

Fantastic – so informative! I really believe this new method will make sense for all children learning to read, write and spell. As one of our teachers completed the course in March and we ordered our materials soon after, we have started “THRASSING” and the children are loving it. Thank you!!

An excellent and exciting course. Very inspirational. So motivated to teach this method.

A very worthwhile course, presented in an interesting, dynamic way. I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about THRASS and how to implement it. Looking forward to using it in a remedial situation.

I enjoyed the two-day course immensely. I feel I have learnt a great deal and look forward to applying THRASS in the classroom. I have seen the children enjoying THRASS, as one of our teachers has previously done the THRASS course. The children catch on to the graphemes and phonemes so quickly and love the rap CD!

Absolutely fantastic. It makes so much sense! Thank you.

As a remedial teacher, I have found the two days very interesting and am looking forward to implementing it. I am sure it will be of great benefit to the children I teach. Thank You.

I really enjoyed the course – time flew! I love the clear, ordered way in which the material was presented. I am looking forward to putting it into practice and seeing the children produce the results – and watching their enjoyment as they learn. I thoroughly enjoyed your presentation style. Thank you.

Thanks for the enthusiasm – you know your product/system well. I personally battled to sit for 2 days and would have preferred a 1-day session. I have come away with valuable ideas and directives from the course and look forward to imparting the knowledge to my children.

An extremely well presented course. Presenter a delight – kept us “awake” throughout. Knowledge of materials very good. The auditory/visual integration with pictures is particularly useful for the remedial situation, as some of our children struggle so with integration –the picture provides such a good memory jog. I’ve been looking for something like this! I really enjoy the fact that most of the options are presented to give the children a choice of grapheme. Only problem is that with the South African exchange rate, materials are very expensive, especially for non-private schools.

A very interesting two days. A lot of food for thought – an overwhelming amount in a short time. This is a completely different approach and will take a while to change mindsets. There are some areas I am still unsure about, but most of my concerns have been addressed. Thank You.

Personally, I feel that this is the missing link to language and literacy teaching! As a Montessori trained pre-school teacher, I have long struggled with the “phonics” only approach, but had no idea of how to adapt it. Now I have, and look forward to integrating this with the Montessori philosophy! Thank you.

Thank you for your time. Very informative. Laola very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Course could be condensed - raps and computer programme. No need to be used/ to be shown at each stage. Maybe needs to be more interactive, especially for pre-school teachers – use movement, drama, play games etc. God bless you and congratulations on a great methodology!!

Brilliant!! Looking forward to implementing the programme and extending the Montessori language curriculum that we have in place.

Very stimulating. I would love to introduce it throughout the school, but with our limited budget, I am almost sure that this will be impossible. Perhaps we could only start with one grade at a time. If the initial cost of resources was higher and photocopy permission given, could also be a possibility.

I found the course to be most interesting and stimulating. Each stage was explained in a simple way with involvement from us, which gave a better understanding of each stage of the programme. Very good management and well presented. Certainly something to put into our schools.

Very stimulating. Lots of information, which consolidated information gained from previous THRASS Info presentations. Practical ways of implementing THRASS into existing schemes.

The course was presented in an enthusiastic, informative manner. The package presentation was easy to follow and reader friendly. A wonderfully stimulating 2-day course! Thank you.

I felt the course was really beneficial and I am especially pleased that there is a system where expectations are being raised for children’s abilities. Many Thanks!

A very informative course. Thank you. The challenge will be implementing and applying this wonderful material. Thank you for making the back-up support available.

Good. Thanks for your enthusiasm. You did pass it on! Well-organised and easy to follow. Felt it could have been condensed into a 1-day course. Could have gone at a faster pace.

Very thoroughly presented. Excellent knowledge of the product. Able to answer our queries. The method is wonderful – even for remedial/dyslexia problems. Costs make it prohibitive to introduce at all levels at this stage.

Interesting. Was great to be introduced to a different method. Pity it is so expensive.

Presentation was clear, informative and entertaining. Interesting and thought provoking. I can certainly see the value of it. What a pity it is so expensive to implement it, especially if you are wanting to remediate privately.

The course was most stimulating and interesting. It was presented with enthusiasm and conviction. The exposure to a fresh way of looking at the teaching of literacy was both exciting and challenging. It provided much to think about. Thank you so much for a worthwhile two days.

From being fairly ambivalent initially, I have come to see the value of THRASS and am sure it will be a very valuable tool for learners to use throughout their lives. I look forward to using it and will enjoy the challenge of teaching something ‘new’ and ‘logical’. Thanks Laola, you were a pleasure to listen to!
