GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS FAMILY SING-A-LONG at LINDER AUDITORIUM

In the video we see the lead up to the concert that took place on 31 May 2009 and hear from teachers and parents just how much children have been practicing and looking forward to it. They have been really invigorated and enthusiastic and have loved every minute of rehearsals. And they are really excited about joining together with so many other children from different schools.

In the concert 10 school choirs from Gauteng joined together to sing either the 24 Consonant Songs or the 20 Vowel Songs from the THRASS SING-A-LONG CD. The schools rehearsed on their own and, for the concert, 300 children sang before the interval and 300 sang after it.

We see the children, led by Janine Plunkett who wrote the words and music for the songs, performing a number of songs including ‘Give me a high five’, ‘Treasure have I’, ‘At six o’clock’, ‘A scary man’ and ‘I am a fish’. Their faces are so expressive and their performance of ‘My teddy bear and I’ is particularly delightful.

Everyone who attended enjoyed seeing the schools working together and was amazed by the children’s energy. They feel that the amount the children are learning from the songs is just incredible and describe SING-A-LONG as an amazing system that has lots of potential.  One teacher tells us that the children love THRASS so much that they sing the songs before school, during break and whenever they get the chance.

Absa Bank and Pritt, founding principal sponsors of the SING-A-LONG project in South Africa, were both represented at the concert and pledged their continued support for THRASS.
