The course was extremely enlightening and created a
total paradigm shift in thinking and approach to spelling and reading. It was
well-presented and every stage made very clear – none of us were left wondering
about any aspect of phonemes and graphemes etc. Laola is extremely dynamic and
made the entire experience thoroughly fascinating.
A stunning new spin on an “old” way of teaching spelling – no more limitations
of “you can only teach up to here in Grade One” anymore! Thank you for
innovative keywords. Thank you Laola for an excellent presentation.
A wonderful learning/teaching invention!
Laola was an extremely well-prepared, dynamic course facilitator. She presented
the information in a clearly structured manner, yet with great enthusiasm. Laola
was able to answer all questions knowledgeably. Thank you for a stunning course.
Very insightful. It is a great method for teaching spelling, reading and
writing. Very nice that writing is incorporated as this is not emphasised
enough! Very nice resources!
Lovely course. Informative. For me particularly, it was also the idea of not
just isolating phonological awareness skills but incorporating them with
handwriting and actually getting to the decoding phase. There’s a lot of overlap
with what I’m doing, but this couldn’t be more fun!
A wonderful methodology for teaching handwriting, reading and spelling skills.
Confidence building for children. Fun, emotive and creative for both students
and teachers. Laola’s passion for teaching and THRASS is tangible. I feel
empowered to teach the skills! Thank You.
I do not teach English at the moment. I am a second language teacher, but I
thoroughly enjoyed the course and I think that the children will benefit greatly
by learning the THRASS method. Thank you.
Laola is an absolute inspiration! The course material is mind blowing. I do
feel, however, that the material is very expensive to purchase in my own
personal capacity. THRASS is the answer to many issues teachers face when
teaching reading writing and spelling.
I found the course made me think in a different way to what I’ve always thought
about spelling and reading. I’d like to implement the skills in the classroom to
see results. Thank you for careful explanations and showing us how to make it
fun and interesting.
The THRASS course was well presented using a variety of aids. The manuals and
teaching aids are of a very good, strong, durable quality. We were presented
with a lot of interesting information – a bit overwhelming. The phonemes on the
computer were not all clear. Our presenter spoke very clearly. I have learnt a
lot, but feel concerned about implementing it correctly.
Very interesting, but too much to absorb in two days. Course should be spread
over a longer period to include more practical work on identifying phonemes and
analysis. Presenter knows the system and is knowledgeable. Rap songs were an
excellent aid.
Presenter is very knowledgeable on course material. Course could be spread over
a longer period – more practical use and more detail on implementation in
school.
A well-presented course, albeit a bit rushed – would have preferred more
opportunity to discuss areas with peers before moving on (understood time
constraints). Enjoyed practical hands on activities – actually using equipment –
cards, magnets etc made THRASS more meaningful. Laola was enthusiastic and
motivational. A comfort to know she is available for support. I am very excited
to implement it.
A comprehensive presentation. A lot of information to digest. It would have been
interesting to see a THRASS lesson. The computer voice articulations were
difficult to assimilate.
I have experience teaching Grades 3-7. The problems with the teaching of
spelling have been extensive in all these areas. This new methodology has given
me a wonderful and new approach. I cannot wait to get into the classroom! Very
well presented! Thank you.
A very positive approach to teaching spelling. However, I still think that there
could be some kind of advanced material for the higher grades when teaching
spelling rules – From Grade 5-7, like when you add on prefixes and suffixes etc.
The course was well presented. The teaching aids are usable, but allowances need
to be made for CD’s etc. that contains different accents.
For several years now, the pupils moving through our system have had fewer and
fewer skills in reading, writing and spelling. As a teacher, I felt I was
wasting my time and theirs – I feel I did not have the training to make a
difference to my pupils. THRASS is very exciting. For once, I feel I will have a
concrete method for teaching the pupils basic skills in language.
What an amazing course. I’ve learnt so much and now feel so excited about the
possibility of assisting the weaker children in my class. A wonderful “Whole
School” programme with amazing possibilities. Thanks to Laola for a
well-presented course. I can’t wait to get started!
Laola was excellent! She was thorough and spoke clearly. I enjoyed the course
and am looking forward to implementing the THRASS system in my classroom.
Wonderfully exciting. I feel very motivated to start implementing this great
teaching method. I am sure our children will benefit tremendously from this
concept. THRASS is a very exciting way to assist with the teaching of English.
Thank you Laola for a wonderful concept and course.
Most informative, very comprehensive and cohesive. It lends itself to being
assimilated into our existing tutoring styles and to be extended for the quicker
learner. Thank you very much!
An entertaining and appealing speaker. She promoted the product well and
justified and motivated its introduction. I feel convinced that this will
provide a most useful crutch for the acquisition of reading and spelling skills.
Explanation of THRASS was very thorough, but I would have liked to have more
practice in breaking up words into sounds to feel competent to teach this
concept.
Laola is an excellent presenter. She put the material/information across with
such a positive attitude, one can’t help but get excited. She is very open with
what she knew, as well as the fact that it’s a learning curve and one won’t
necessarily pick everything up in the two days available. Another day would be
useful. Some pronunciation different to SA, which may confuse little kids.
Interesting methodology very well presented. I feel the sounds are not all
applicable to South Africa and feel THRASS (with a S.A. accent) could be
considered.
Course well presented. Interesting to look at a different methodology. Will take
some time to “sink” in! Comprehensive programme. I think it will work. The words
“tin” and “rocket” are (in my opinion) problematic in a South African context –
perhaps different examples need to be used in class.
A very exciting concept which was handled in a clear and confident manner.
Presenter was knowledgeable and able to answer most questions comprehensively. I
leave the course motivated and eager to begin this new challenge.
The course was brilliant. Very clearly and specifically explained. Laola is very
knowledgeable. She explained the concepts of THRASS in an easy to understand,
interesting and exciting manner. Really enjoyed the course. Feel motivated and
enlightened.
The course was exciting and interesting. It all came together on the second day
and I am looking forward to implementing it in the classroom. It cleared up some
of the ‘mysteries’ of the English language. The picture charts and manuals were
colourful and interesting.
Wonderful programme. Thank you for the practical advice. I will be able to use
this to the pupils’ and my advantage! I am looking forward to seeing their
improvement in their reading and spelling ages, as I am very concerned about the
‘gaps’ in the ages at the moment. Thank you for your wonderful suggestions. I
would like to see you in action! Maybe you could give the delegates even more
practical work to do. Would children with auditory problems cope?
Very clearly presented. Wonderful to hear how our language is correctly
pronounced and how the phonemes work to make words. I believe this will really
help your phonetic learners. (Can’t wait to try this on my son who is a poor
reader) I like the idea of telling the children the “whole truth” from the
beginning. It makes a lot of sense and I look forward to implementing this in my
classroom.
Enlightening.Hopefully it will iron out the many problems we encountered in the
teaching of English. Many practical hints and ideas for implementation – without
which I would not have attempted the implementation. Training could be longer –
less intense – make us do snippets of lessons.
Excellent. A little daunting at first, but much clearer on the second day. Laola
enthusiastic and informative – passionate about her work and this programme. We
are very excited about the possibilities of THRASS. Wonderful visual aids – wish
we could afford them all for every teacher.
I was confused at first, but as things progressed, it was great to see just how
logical this process is! I look forward to the implementation of this method of
learning in our school, as I am now convinced that we will benefit greatly from
this. Thank you so much for a well presented course.
