From 1-3
August 2006, over 200 children performed in front of packed houses in a
THRASS-inspired school concert.
Alan Davies, Executive Director, THRASS UK, and Laola Altschul, THRASS Southern
Africa, were amongst the guests for one of the three exhilarating performances at
Grayston Preparatory School, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Said
Alan, "It was great to see so many children sing so heartily! Having the
children sing the Grapheme Word Rap Consonants to introduce each of the class
presentations in the Consonant Section and to use the same idea for the Vowels
was a brilliant way to introduce and embed the one-hundred-and-twenty
'whole-school' keywords in the minds of the children - and their parents! Many
parents told me that they now knew all the words - and their exact locations on
the picturechart!"
A
superbly-produced 90 minute DVD was produced by DVI for the parents. With
permission, we have heavily edited and altered this production to give a five minute insight to the performance.
Our thanks go to headmaster, Bruce Crouser, deputy head Junior Prep, Lynda
Johnson, musical director, Marietjie Els and all the staff, pupils and parents
(especially those involved in the set, the make-up and the fantastic costumes)
for the phenomenal amount of work towards three such memorable and informative
'Parents' Evenings'.
Our
thanks also to DVI, for allowing us to cut-up and play-around with their
masterpiece (largely by including lots of still images) to give you a good idea
of what was involved in the concert.
Video snippets for the individual class performances, for the
THRASS keywords dog, fish, giant, hippo, dress, cheese, rocket, tiger, frog and
house, can be viewed by clicking on Video
