GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS TWO-DAY CERTIFICATE, GABORONE, BOTS, SEPT 28-29, 2004.

Portable Document Format

A fantastic program that makes absolute sense. Also thanks for being so enthusiastic about it. Your enthusiasm is catching and so is your belief in THRASS. It will certainly change my teaching.

Enjoyable, exciting and dynamic. Looking forward to putting it in action.

Wow! A whole new world opened!

This empowers teachers and children to engage with the language and their learning. Well presented. Interesting materials, which are thoughtfully designed. Great to have a whole school, whole educational, approach to language again.

Highly inspirational! The course was interesting and captivating. I learnt a great deal about phonemes and graphemes amongst other things. Thank you.

Very exciting! It makes sense and would be wonderful if we take it on. Alan is very entertaining - and keeping us awake the first afternoon (after our full day’s work) was no mean feat! The time limitations meant that it felt quite ‘fast’, but was a great introduction. We can browse through the resources and get our heads round it at leisure. I hope it leads to a greater, co-operative effort on our part.

I really enjoyed this course. You managed to keep us entertained throughout the course. It all made a lot of sense and I can’t wait to use it with my own children. I also thought it was easy to understand. Thank you so much – you were great!

Really enjoyed the course. A whole new approach, which I will implement in my classroom. The two days were brilliantly planned, very informative and fun. Alan, you’re a natural! Would love to get a bit more input. It’s all clear now but would love to get to see it in a classroom environment. You must come and do one of the demonstration lessons in my classroom!

Thoroughly enjoyed the two days. Really gave me food for thought. Let’s hope we can all do you proud. Many thanks. Please come to my class for a demonstration lesson!

I enjoyed it very much. A whole lot of information and good ideas to think about and implement. Great strategy for reading and spelling. Very well presented, looking forward to seeing teaching demonstrations. Thank you for your expertise!

I cannot tell you how much this has meant to me. To have a system to follow allows me to take the children to new heights - to get them to enjoy words, reading and language as much as I always have. Most important, I have always believed that education can only take place when children are enjoying themselves. With THRASS you have combined learning and enjoyment in the best possible way. Thank you so much.

I found the course very interesting, especially helpful as it is at the beginning of my teaching career! If I had been taught this, I would not have had so many problems myself with spelling. I look forward to using it.

Very impressive. At long last a strategy that belongs in a whole school system. It takes away much of the ‘guess work’ and different methods that serve to confuse both child and teacher. It will take time to establish a workable timeline/understanding for staff.

A very good introduction to this program – exploring it step-by-step as a whole staff should be our next step to develop a deeper cohesive understanding of where we should start. Subsequent steps need to be clearly determined to ensure a clear map for the school.

Very interesting. As a parent, I am going to teach my child ‘properly’ from now on! Please do come back!

I found the course worth attending. I learnt a lot from it, the ideas I got from this course will be useful, also for when I teach Setswana. I wish we could have a similar course in the near future. I found it very interesting to learn that children spell words wrongly not because they are bad spellers but because they make the wrong spelling choice. Thanks once more for this course. It was brilliant.

I enjoyed your enthusiasm and understand how and why your programme works in schools worldwide. I do however have a concentration problem and struggle to sit for long periods of time, perhaps we could have been a little more busy (active). I do understand that we don’t want to embarrass teachers but things got a bit technical and over the top. I look forward to seeing you in action with children and I am sure that would help to clear the fog.

A dynamic approach presented in a stimulating and entertaining manner. Very fast paced and intense – breaks were well timed and very necessary. Challenging – I look forward to using THRASS in the future.

A most stimulating and inspiring two days. How wonderful to see a programme that has continuity and common knowledge for teachers and students. It gives teachers a multisensory approach to enhance reading, writing and spelling. Confirmed my personal conviction that reading, writing and spelling should be taught hand-in-hand. The course did seem overwhelming at times especially for the Early Years. It is important for children to explore and create their own patterns and ways of looking and playing with words. Children need to create their own points of reference displayed around the room that are authentic to their own writing. Need time to take it all in but am delighted to find a programme where all teachers are speaking a common language. Thank you for an exciting and interesting course. I look forward to working through the materials and seeing how it works with the children.

Amazing! Had a lot of frustrated children in the classroom with regards to reading and spelling skills. "Making the correct choice" has become the most common phrase in my literacy lessons (since SNASOB). THANKYOU!

You present as if ten (different yet interesting) people live inside your head. Well done! Very interesting and empowering.

Very enjoyable and user friendly. Would have loved to have seen a ‘demo’ lesson with some children.

I have small group of pupils whose biggest challenge is spelling! This course has given me hope! Looking forward to seeing the classroom demonstrations. Thank you for an energetic session – have felt quite bombarded at times but the overall picture is good!

I will "hold my plums" until we are on line. Thanks for coming. It was a privilege to have been on the course. My brain is teaming!

Presentation excellent and material provided is very pertinent to the whole THRASS approach. When do we start? I will need to learn the difference between graphemes, phonemes, synthetic phonics, digraphs, trigraphs, monophthong etc. in order to feel confident about entering into this approach!

Very enlightening, sometimes a bit confusing with all the language. Very concentrated course. A lot to take on board in such a short course. It makes sense, I like all the material that can be used and have learnt a lot. At least it has been going for a whole and tried and tested, not just another spelling fad. I think that it is good, because it follows on across the whole school and we then know what’s been and what’s to come later. Speaker very good and enthusiastic.

Clear, logical, fun and practical – wonderful to be able to ‘hold onto something’, as a teacher. It certainly is better than what is being taught at present and only hope that my own children will be exposed to this!

What energy! I am very impressed – feel a little stunned by the amount of new ideas I have been bombarded by. Could do with a more drawn-out presentation. A consistent approach to teaching handwriting, reading and spelling skills would be brilliant, including specialists. I am convinced that THRASS is the way to go!
