Learners are able to make
natural links between the forty-four speech-sounds and their spelling-choices.
Instead of having to stick to only
the words that can be read using artificial 'letter sounds', such as 'cat' and
'dog', attention can be drawn to words commonly found in the environment, such
as the names of people, places and products.
