GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS TWO-DAY CERTIFICATE,
MILTON KEYNES, SEPT 4-5, 2006

Portable Document Format

This course has really helped me understand phonemes and graphemes. The charts were clear and using both pictures and sounds reinforced the learning. I liked the songs as this made learning easier.

Very useful and informative – I have learnt a lot about phonics! I am looking forward to using the Phoneme Machine!

A very informative and enjoyable course. I now feel confident to go into the classroom and teach THRASS. I can see how the children will benefit so much from using this system.

I’ll never be able to go back to Jolly Phonics/PIPS again. Finally it all makes sense, and I’ve been equipped with the skills and knowledge to teach young children to read (my favourite pastime!) and write (my second favourite!). A truly dynamic and inspiring teacher and course. I’ll never teach the same again! Thankyou!

Excellent. Very detailed. I was exposed to Jolly Phonics during training but this helped things slot into place so much more. Two days brilliant, but would only ask for more guidance on how to use as differentiated work for whole school teaching.

WOW!! Many, many thanks! At last someone has explained the meanings of terminology we have been using. Great resources – the Phoneme Machine looks AMAZING. Really looking forward to getting started and building upon these last two days. Very inspired to get going with the children. Thankyou.

The course opened up so many different doors to teaching handwriting, reading and spelling. I can see that you can use THRASS in any area of the curriculum in worthwhile “short bursts” or as a “whole” lesson. In foundation the literacy planning could easily be “THRASS” based.

Very good course. Lots of content. Definitely see the logic behind THRASS. Alan very good at explaining and answering questions. Would like to know more about THRASS at later date. Feel I can go into school class and work with THRASS.

A good two days with lots of useful advice and ideas. Looking forward to having a go!

Very informative. Am looking forward to receiving “15 Minutes A Day” to find out how to implement on a daily basis in the classroom.

Very good course, but a lot of information to take in over two days.

Very enjoyable course. Very happy with teaching THRASS in school after this overview. Many thanks.

This course was very informative. There was a lot of information to take in over the two days. It was very well put across. I can’t wait to put all I’ve learnt into practice. Thanks.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the past two days. I can see clearly how this approach will empower the children and help them to read, write and spell and I’m looking forward to putting all the ideas into practice. I’m looking forward to learning more myself too! Thankyou!

Very informative and stimulating. Well presented, although an awful lot of stuff to take on board.

Very informative and interesting.

Very enjoyable and informative course. The theory you talked about made sense and very much supports our school initiatives of BLP – mapping out the learning journey for children. I would be very interested to watch a lesson – and to see the 15 Minute a Day material, so I could begin to see how progress is made on a daily level. I will certainly be discussing THRASS with our leadership team.

Excellent course. Day 1. Very intense but Day 2 things start to slot into place. Having been taught the old way, found it quite hard to grasp on Day1

Informative and useful.

Excellent course. Very interesting and extremely well taught. Hope I can deliver this and help the children. Did find it a lot of information to take in. Will try to use the website to continue understanding.

A real ‘eye opener’. We had discussed phonemes, graphemes etc. on my PGCE course, 5 years ago, but I never understood! Everything was explained really clearly. Good resources. Will enjoy using in my classroom. Well delivered. Fantastic lunch. Thanks.

Interesting. Makes a difference to understanding spelling and sound blends etc.

Brilliant – made so much sense. I now know the difference between a digraph and a consonant blend, amongst lots of other really useful techniques.

Very interesting and enjoyable. Day One in particular was very easy to listen to and take in. I found Day Two slightly harder going. However, I felt things were explained until I felt I understood it. I found the teaching techniques brilliant and inspiring.

Thorough run-down of Profilecard, much better understanding of the stage and levels of THRASS. I would appreciate a run through the higher levels of application once THRASS has been used in Year 6 for some time, e.g. the Hotword and 500 word lists. Thanks for breaking the ‘vowel’ nonsense.

An interesting and informative course. Delivered in a precise manner and I feel will make a real difference to my professional and personal life.

Great! Wish I’d had training like this on my P.G.C.E. Thanks!

The THRASS training was very enjoyable. Am looking forward to putting it into place within the classroom and believe it is a fun and effective way to teach.

A lot to take in, in two days, but very good. How it will go in practice, we’ll see!

Fantastic course, very interesting and lively. Easy and interesting, interactive. As a parent and T.A., this course has been brilliant. I can now understand and help my own children and those in the Nursery.

A lively and engaging presentation. Easy to follow stages and materials. Didn’t dodge professional ‘hot potatoes’. Good to see Alan interacting and taking an interest in different people’s experience. 12 years teaching and found lots of new things and different angles – thankyou!
