THRASS TWO-DAY CERTIFICATE,
BIRMINGHAM, SEPT 27-28, 2006

What a brilliant two days. I can’t believe I have never been trained in any of this before – it’s quite shocking! I am looking forward to going away to read a lot more and then try it all out in my classroom. Delivery of such a huge amount of information was done in a brilliant manner. Thank you very much.

A very enjoyable and inspiring course. It was very well structured and there were a lot of resources to look through and share. Clear instructions and guidance on how to implement into the classroom and carry out ongoing assessment. Thank you for your time and effort.

I found this course quite useful and interesting. I have always felt that we should use letter names with children. The resources are well developed. One idea for the future – how about developing a reading scheme to accompany the THRASS programme.

I really have enjoyed this training. I have learnt a lot more about teaching phonics. This will definitely make a difference for young children and how to learn to read and write. The THRASS training has been interesting and very informative. We will definitely be able to use this within the school. I feel that once we’ve started it, I’ll understand it a lot more.

I found the two day course interesting. It gave me a new insight to using phonemes. I know the children will benefit and do well when spelling the words they use in stories and their writing. Thankyou for your time and updating all of us with the new way of teaching.

Excellent. Clearly explained what phoneme, grapheme, graph, digraph, trigraph, quadgraph were. Teaching points on how to implement the different words through reading, writing and spelling. Very clear profilecard. Easy to use for assessment. Excellent resources that will be very useful.

The course was useful and interesting. I liked the idea of VAK. This programme will be very useful for the EAL children. The course was presented very well.
Fascinating and informative. It will certainly revolutionise the way I teach reading, spelling and handwriting and how I approach children who are having difficulties. I can’t wait to get started. I struggled a bit by the end of Day 2!

Great. I have learnt what all these big words mean and now it makes sense. I loved the unstressed vowel in a polysyllabic word bit. I like its multi-sensory approach. Can’t wait to get back to school (KS2) and attack some new long spellings. Also, can’t wait to show the Phoneme Machine to my own child. Also, am going to try to talk staff into a THRASS fancy dress for Children in Need.

I found this two days training course very beneficial and it will help me very much when I teach children reading, writing and spelling skills.

Two day course was very intensive. A lot to take in but feel confident that the support material and website will enable me to put into practise the THRASS scheme within a short period of time.

I found the programme a real eye-opener. There is so much that I want to try in school and at home with my child. It was excellent.

Fantastic! Loads of information which I am just hoping I will remember on Monday! Everything fits into place and has real meaning.

So much to take in. As I start to work with the children my own knowledge of this map will increase. As this grows so will my confidence.

I did not know all the consonant phonemes and the 20 vowel phonemes. Now I feel a lot more confident about teaching children how to read.

Presentation and explanation of the scheme were good. Lots of information over the two days which, although given at a fast pace, was clearly explained. I am still unsure as to how the scheme will work with Reception children, as I feel half an hour sessions with the available materials are quite limiting.

The course was a real eye-opener, e.g. enjoyed the two days, confused with some sounds! Was presented with brilliant humour. Thankyou.

I enjoyed the INSET and the delivery was also age appropriate. I like the way in which the charts all inter-link with each and how the framework can be used across the curriculum. I also am eager to see the results as they seem to have had a positive impact on the international scope. Thankyou.

Through this course have learned how to spell - also awared me that the vowels are different to what I know. It has given me the knowledge and understanding of phonics and how I could deliver to children.

The presentation was good and very interesting. It was a lot to take in over two days and will need time to sink in fully! I can see how it will work in KS2 but have concerns to how it will work in Reception and possibly Y1. I have learnt new ways to teach phonics and spellings which I will be using from now on.

It has certainly got my brain thinking – really enjoyed it – really buzzing! My young child is really lucky!

I found the two day inset very interesting. Your demonstration using the piccturechart showed how to pronounce the sounds correctly. You are a great role model and all children need the best model.

The two days training was very informative and has expanded my knowledge on how phonics should really be taught. My overall response is EXCELLENT!

There were lots of lesson ideas for a range of ages and abilities. Very informative and made a lot of things clear. Especially good for EAL and SEN and enjoyed the practical side.

As a KS2 teacher, I didn’t really think this would be for me but by the end of the first day I knew I would always be very passionate about the teaching of THRASS to all ages.
