GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS ONE-DAY FOUNDATION,
SHEFFIELD, OCT 24, 2008

Portable Document Format

Enjoyable. Very clear subject knowledge. Good ideas for practical ways to teach letter names etc.

Fantastic day. Very informative. I now feel far more confident in my own knowledge of phonics and look forward to trying some of the activities in the classroom.

I’m enthused about THRASS. I’m looking forward to sharing everything with my children and learning and growing in literacy together!

Very enjoyable. Good ideas to use in school with the children singing. Learnt many new things.

Really enjoyable day – course presenter great. Lots of useful ideas to use in school. Increased my own subject knowledge.

Very useful course overall. Eager to try out the THRASS scheme of work and resources with my class. Materials well presented in ways which will be easy to repeat.

Very interesting methods to help children with phonics. Fun and useful resources were shown. Alan was good at getting his point across in an enjoyable way. Fully enjoyed the training.

Raised some very important points for inclusion into practice. My concerns are with what recent documents, e.g. Phase 1 phonics and the letters and sounds documents are promoting as good practice. For the past two years our school has had children achieve at a higher level. Does your scheme address children who have difficulty to orally segment and blend?

Very good and made sense (eventually) to me.

Speaker very engaging. Lots of practical examples of how to implement. Would have been useful to hear how THRASS works with Letters and Sounds document.

Useful and am looking forward to using it with my class.

Lots of information so would like more time to practice and then another training session.

Lots of useful ideas about how to move the teaching forward. Helpful ideas and teaching ideas.

Enthusiastic presenter. Helped me to understand spelling more. Hope to implement it. It makes sense.

Put me right in some misconceptions. Lots to do with the children.

Enjoyable. Can see how it will work in school. Look forward to using it.

Good ideas to use in the classroom. Really liked the songs and raps. Wicked!

I can see how it will work well in our school. We need to decide to use it and stick with it! Good use of songs and other interactive resources.

Interesting course. Lots to learn and take on board. Look forward to trying this out in school.

Excellent course. Enjoyable and very interesting.

Very good. Interesting and informative.

Excellent! A way forward for us all to learn, teach, pass on, use and consolidate the English written and spoken language. Great day.

Interesting and informative.

Interesting day. Certainly food for thought! Wondering how we can possibly follow on from Letters and Sounds in KS1 with THRASS in KS2. Discussions to follow, no doubt!

Interesting. As a reception teacher we most often focus on letter sounds so this has made me think about the way we teach phonics.

It all makes sense. Lots of fun. Hope we purchase the resources!

Enjoyed course and could see the use of lots of the resources in getting children learning about phonics. Good demonstration on how to use resources.

Excellent again! If something works we need to stick with it. Unfortunately I worry that change in education is cyclical – one minute you’re in, the next out!

Very interesting – liked alphabet work and use of letter names rather than sounds. Songs/CD too! Where does it fit with Letters and Sounds phonics scheme.

Very informative course. Will help me as a trainee teacher, a TA and a parent of foundation stage children! Will definitely make use of the learning.

Very good. It made a lot of sense and I envisage using it in the not too distant future.

An enjoyable day. The concepts of THRASS made a lot of sense and reinforced a lot of what is already being taught. I liked all the resources, songs, charts etc.

Good coverage of phonics –graphemes, graph, digraph, trigraph etc. Good approach to teaching strategies.

A very useful strategy for teaching letter sounds effectively. A good overview of subject knowledge.

Very interesting how content was slightly changed to make it appropriate for audience.

THRASS makes so much more sense to me now! I wish I’d done the first day before the second day (and before I tried to start teaching it!). I now feel more confident to teach it to my Y7’s.

Fantastic! Just wish (as a high school teacher) I had done this Day 1 first!

A lot to think about for both schools! Thanks for the trip down memory lane, plus the catch up into 2008! Raised some important issues.

Excellent. All relevant, stimulating ideas throughout for use in class. Drew previous knowledge of phonics into a ‘whole’, much clearer picture. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Has given me an understanding of the nature of THRASS and the resources available to deliver the programme. Has encouraged me to challenge current practice in school. Excellent presentation – lively and informative, thought provoking and enjoyable.

Really enjoyable. The approach seemed very logical, common-sense and therefore refreshing! Like mixture of approach (visual, auditory, kinesthetic). Songs – fun, exciting way to engage children.
