THRASS "15 MINS TIMES 2" COURSE,
GTG, SOUTH AFRICA, OCT 7, 2006

Portable Document Format

Enjoyed seeing how to practically apply THRASS in the classroom. The work scheme will be a great guideline when implementing THRASS next year!

Extremely well presented and valuable – I learnt a lot more about THRASS. Now I need to go back through the literature myself in order to become more familiar with the content!

I have learnt much more about where to begin and what to do in Grade 1.

Very enjoyable and informative. Laola is a pleasure to listen to. The scheme is much appreciated and gives one a place to start!

The course was valuable in that it highlighted the key points of THRASS which served as a refresher course. A valuable resource as it outlines the facilitation of THRASS beautifully. Well done Alan & Co.

I feel more confident and understand more on how to approach THRASS in a teaching environment.

Informative and well presented. I feel much more confident. I now have a starting point.

I have really enjoyed this course. The fact that it is put into a step by step scheme of work is great, as it gives a fairly clear outline of how teachers can go about implementing it into the classroom.

This has given me more insight on how to implement THRASS without feeling out of my depth.

A very useful course. It solidified a lot of previous knowledge and provides us with a tool to use when confidence fails and provides progression.

Very informative. Nice to know where to start and have an idea how long/how much time to spend on a section (more/less). You can always just refer back to this scheme and you will know where to go from. I feel much more confident now.

I found the course to be informative and appreciate the scheme of work. Every time we learn more.

Thank you for the scheme of work. It will be a great help.

It gave some clarity on how we should proceed with teaching THRASS at our school. Very enlightening.

I feel more confident and have some new ideas to use next year.

Great. A bit of specific planning always helps. Some things at school are going to change again!

A valuable course but I think it could have been extended by actually doing a week’s work! It’s good to know how to move step-by-step, as our school has been Thrassing around in the dark. Maybe now the rest of the phase will come on board, as they are not using THRASS.

Good to meet with others and share ideas. Nice to be able to clarify and discuss some problems. Bit long and drawn out – could possibly be reduced to a few hours.

Good to see how we take this wonderful programme and implement it in our school’s curriculum. A lot to learn in one day, but a super starting point for our Foundation Phase. Well done!

It was nice to get concrete information regarding the implementation of THRASS.

Nice refresher course and great to have a guide. Suggestion: Divide delegates into groups to go through their relevant levels. Would need more trainers. The course was too long and could be condensed with group work.

Thanks very much. A little clearer.

Useful as a refresher, but a bit long. The guide is useful, but may need to be adapted to suit needs of the school. The opportunity to liaise with other teachers was very useful.

Great to have a scheme of work. Enjoyed the explanations of concepts which we have battled with in our initial year of implementation – e.g. Thrass Dictionary vs traditional.

Pleased to get a day by day programme to follow. Also nice to see we are on the right track. I enjoyed the explanations for use of resources like the THRASS Dictionary etc. Thank you.

Definitely holds much promise in the Junior Prep and can see it filtering through the system. Would have liked to have heard a little more for senior primary, as we have finished T1-T10.

It was great to revise the key features of THRASS and to receive the guidelines that illustrate its implementation. The talk could have been shorter though since much of the book is self explanatory and doesn’t need to be read through in such detail. Thank you for the great ideas!

This was really worth it. I needed this to make total sense. I am excited to initiate THRASS in our school. Will refer the rest of the Foundation Phase to the next training.

Covered a lot of what we had already done and that instead of going through each paragraph on every page it could have been done in a shorter time. Some very good ideas were given by other teachers.

Thank you so much, Laola. We have more clarity now and this will help give more assurance to our more traditional teachers who struggled with the change.

Useful information re: the structuring of the programme was supplied in an easy to use and structured format. I’m pleased that we seem to be on track in our implementation. Thank you very much.

A very much needed resource. Don’t like use of abbreviations – would prefer grid at top or “removable” grid. Long day – could be shorter. Laola is very knowledgeable and answered questions well.

Thank you. Really helps having a programme outline.

Have just implemented the THRASS programme this year and was a little unsure if we’re presenting it correctly. Today has helped consolidate my knowledge and has given me a lot of new ideas on how to make it more exciting and interesting for my pupils.

I enjoyed the video clips and found today to be a valuable experience. Thank you!

Thank you!

A lot of uncertainty cleared up. Very useful ideas for implementation. Thanks for a scheme of work.

Light at the end of the tunnel. Slowly getting easier, but still a long way to go. “Work in progress”.

This is what I have been waiting for and will now be able to give my staff the confidence they need to go forward. This scheme is wonderful. Perhaps next course, we might workshop Grade 1 seperately.

Thank you very much. We can now go and implement THRASS!

The book is a good guide to work from. Got useful ideas from fellow teachers.

Thank you, Laola. Very clearly presented.

Good course – put a lot in perspective. Needs to be kept focused as lecturer goes off track at times.

I found it extremely invaluable in helping me to break the teaching up into logical steps. This course allayed many fears of implementation for me.

Thank you. It needs to be far more interactive – still feel a bit insecure – hands on approach.

It is a lot to take in – the abbreviations are confusing. Once we start implementing this in our school, I feel this booklet will be a great help to get going.

Great help to get started. Good guideline. All the abbreviations are a bit difficult to remember and follow. Still trying to get school to help implement.

Thank you, it did give us an introduction to the methodology involved. I think though that it needs it needs to be more hands on – It becomes too much of a read out of the book seminar.

A great course. Good to be able to link the resources to a scheme. Makes much more sense now.

It helped a lot to be able to have interaction with colleagues during the course and to share ideas. Laola is a good facilitator. The structured approach makes it much easier.

The wait has been worthwhile. Thank you for the scheme. It will provide the structure we needed.

Very comprehensive. This will provide us with the structure we need.

So much thought has gone into this scheme. Thank you.

Reinforcement of information, ideas for implementation and the opportunity to speak to other people was invaluable. The scheme of work met my expectations and I think it will be an excellent guide in insuring logical progression.

A valuable opportunity to share ideas. Well facilitated with clear, concise explanation. Thank you.
