GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS TWO-DAY CERTIFICATE,
AZERBAIJAN,  NOV 18-19, 2007

Portable Document Format

Very good presentation. I found it informative and something I feel has possibilities in ESL for children. There was a lot to get through. This is a great system and is the best I have seen. The computer programme is also the best I have seen.

An interesting and fun course. Hilary was clear and positive in her teaching style. She was very good at explaining the various aspects of THRASS. I will be happy to use THRASS in my class.

Loads of good activities. Useful tools. Enjoyed it! Worth the long weekend!

Very good and interesting. As a non-native English speaker, personally it has been very useful for me. As a teacher who works with young children of age 3-5, the course provided me with good examples of how to help children who are just beginning to develop interest in letter names, sounds and order, as well as forming letters.

Excellent – mind-bogglingly, confusingly brilliant. It will take me a few days to unravel all the info, but my eyes have been opened to a new way to learn how to spell – important for some students at my level – and how to link reading, spelling and handwriting. You managed to get through a phenomenal amount of information in a very clear way and for that I compliment you. Well done!

Good programme. I understand the system much better. Well-presented in a clear, concise manner.

Analytic, scientific, detailed. Lots of useful material for use with struggling Gr 5 students. The system may be too regimented for many curricula and for most kids with average literacy skills.

Having come across THRASS in previous schools, it was great to learn how the system works. I really liked the multi-sensory approach to learning and the acknowledgement of the different learning styles that we use. I thought the way in which regional accents were explored and explained in relation to the consonant and particularly vowel phonemes helped to clarify how this system can be adapted to an international setting and I can definitely see myself using the system effectively in other international schools. I am very pleased that I attended the course and met both Hilary and Mike, as their enthusiasm for and in depth knowledge of the system will help me to implement THRASS effectively in the future.

Interesting – could have done with this at the beginning of the school year. Can see a use for children I work with who are visual learners.

really interesting and I think that it’s really different from all of the phonics systems I’ve been familiar with. It’s different and interesting! I like it! I’ll definitely be using it in my classroom!

Well-presented, with a good level of interaction. Well-organised with tangible materials. Musical book looks great. A good amount of knowledge to start out with.

LOADS of information. Lots of food for thought. The whole programme is very thorough. Hilary has a huge knowledge and is obviously passionate about the subject. Her enthusiasm is catching. I learned a lot about how language works, which will inform my teaching. Reservations; I find the huge amount of structure very restrictive. I think that, for me, THRASS would hugely enrich my teaching, but it might not be the whole of my programme. Also, as an early childhood practitioner, I would have serious reservations about starting this as young as three. I realise that this is a quirk of the British education system, but I don’t believe that such formal teaching, however fun, is appropriate at that young. All in all very worthwhile.

I thought that I might not get a lot out of this course second time round, but I did! There has been a lot of updating of technology and it was good to become familiar with it. I also found it valuable to go over all ten steps again. THRASS makes so much sense to me!

Very good, interesting presentation and good pace of delivery. Colourful, well-illustrated resources, appealing to children. Necessary to use it with the kids to fully understand and put into practice what we have learned. Interactive/multi-media approach useful for different learning styles.

An excellent fusion of the theory and practical application of THRASS in the classroom. I found the phases and ten-stage system clear and methodical. I look forward to grappling with it in class.

It seemed best if the whole school would adopt the programme. I didn’t quite see how to use it for upper-primary. I appreciate your dedication and enthusiasm!

I was exposed to THRASS last year in another class in school and really enjoyed it. Your course put all my thoughts and ideas about THRASS together.

Enjoyable. The mixture of discussing the theory behind THRASS and practical activity was fantastic.
