THRASS TWO-DAY CERTIFICATE,
GTG, SOUTH AFRICA, MAY 18-19, 2007

Portable Document Format

Wonderful. Alan, your energy is great. You made these two days fly by. Thank you very much. I cannot wait to see how this will work with the children in our school, as well as with my child at home.

Held my attention right through. Introduced all the key concepts painlessly. Excellent.

What a great two days I had as an Afrikaans-speaking lady. Alan, you are a fantastic presenter. Keep up the good work!

Exciting. Informative. Hope that every institution in RSA can be exposed to this wonderful course.

Wow! What an insightful course! Alan was a bundle of energy and it’s as if the lights went on for me! Thank you very much! I can’t wait to teach this to the kids.

I thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and humour. It’s also nice to hear that someone regards teachers as worthy and important. Excellent programme. I am excited to try it out.

Eye-opening, refreshing ideas and methods. Excellent presentation. First course – been awake all through it. Information that will work well.

The course was informative showing methods of clearing misconceptions related to the teaching of spelling. Gained much knowledge to help learners improve future work – literacy and other fields.

Excellent presentation re-changed my mind completely about the programme. Will introduce it at my school. Other educators still to be trained properly.

As someone that has personally struggled with spelling – I wish that this was available 20 years ago, no even longer – 30 years ago. I never managed to understand the “faerie” e rule etc. I believe that this is the best news in education since Mark Schuttleworth. Thanks Alan – you are not only saving an illiterate generation but you do it with such charisma. Great workshop.

An eye-opening experience! I thoroughly enjoyed this course and will highly recommend it to all. I have realised the many weaknesses in our spelling programme and will leave here with many, many ideas. And a fresh approach to English spelling and phonics.

Wow! Thank you for opening my eyes to the possibilities. Areas that have been a concern for a long time, are now opportunities. I look forward to implementing THRASS in my class as well as using THRASS with my child.

Totally inspiring, can’t wait to implement it! So good to find something that actually encourages reading nowadays!

Excellent! I finally can understand the problems I am experiencing in my class.

Great new and innovative method to teaching handwriting, reading and spelling. Use of technology very good.

The course was very informative. Learnt a lot of new concepts and ideas on how to teach reading, writing and spelling. The course was well presented.

Very informative – revolutionising the whole concept of phonics. I found it a bit too much to digest in two days. Loved the games.

Phonics has a whole new meaning. Thank-you to THRASS. I am really excited about teaching THRASS to my Grade 0 learners. The course was excellent and definitely worthwhile. Thank you to Alan Davies for being such an inspiration to many teachers in South Africa.

The course was great. Great teaching ideas – valuable ones. Really enjoyed it and would attend again.

The course was very informative. It was well presented where out attention was kept on track, with lots of activities and humour. However, I felt that a lot of in-depth work was presented towards the end.

I thoroughly enjoyed the course and the humour. Will introduce THRASS to my teaching in the future. It seems to be a lot more logical than Letterland. It is inspiring to learn about something passionately taught and believed in. Can’t wait to implement THRASS.

This was excellent. It involved us all and had us participating in interesting activities that we all enjoyed! I am quite excited to implement this in my school! I learnt a lot through the course as it even opened my eyes to some mistakes that I have made in my teaching.

A very entertaining two days. I admire Alan’s enthusiasm and energy. I have been using THRASS with Grade 3 pupils since January and having these two days has consolidated my knowledge. I have been experiencing fantastic “celebrations” of success with many children. I do believe that THRASS will succeed in our school because of the wonderful system and terrific teachers. Keep up the good work.

Thank you very much for an excellent presentation. I always knew that my way of teaching phonics is wrong. Now I was able to make a mind switch, especially helping the learners with autism. Thank you for helping autistic children in a wonderful way, especially in the future to come.

Excellent – excellent – excellent! It’s so sad that I/we didn’t know THRASS since the beginning of my teaching career. Event the autistic learners can benefit. For me personally – the information was a bit too much. I would love to “re-attend” the course! However. I’m going to try THRASS! Thank you very much for Alan’s enthusiasm and for Mike’s effort!

Thank you for a new look on phonics! Still getting my head around where to start with Grade R. Thinking of creating the sound HOUSES – who lives in the house (bird/rabbit). Can make the Treasure house – very special!

Thank you so much. Essential for teaching Autistic learners new skills, as well as the teachers.

A new breeze! A lot to swallow but I’m going to chew on this for a while. Excellent skills and a “well done award” for Alan – a man in a world full of women! May god bless you and your Company. Good luck and please call again.

Mr. Alan Davies, you have devised an excellent system of teaching phonics. I wish it had been introduced earlier in our country, at our school. This is exciting. Cannot wait to try this in school and at home with my own children.

Most worthwhile. Motivating. Feel need time to let all sink in, then another question time.

Wow! If someone had told me all this a long time ago I would be brilliant at teaching phonics and producing FANTASTIC readers, spellers and listeners! Enjoyed every minute of the course. Course material is wonderful. Can’t wait to implement this in my school! I can honestly see my learners (Grade 2) loving the music and rap and learning as they go along, instead of just throwing words and sounds at them as we usually do and expecting them to just learn. Wonderful course!

It definitely changes the way I teach phonics and it makes more sense than the ‘old phonics’. I am very excited and nervous about implementing THRASS.

Great – thanks! Hoping it will work with my teenage son. Could never understand why he spelt so badly.

A course that challenges the mind and opens the mind to new thought patterns. Possibly, should be done over three days as there just seems like there is so much more to be learnt.

Stimulating and interesting the whole time. It makes such sense and doing everything practically helps the penny drop!

An exciting course presented by an enthusiastic presenter. A bit too much information for two days. Maybe do section after lunch on Day 2 or a third day. Thank you for passing on your passion. Always battled with phonics and now have something that will work.

Fantastic, wonderful course. Learnt so much – a bit too much to digest! Please don’t knock Letterland – it has its value, and the kids love the characters. I love THRASS and feel so excited about starting!

Informative and enjoyable. Very good – keep up the enthusiasm.

The THRASS course was interesting, fun and eye-opening. Thank you. I had a great time.

Thank you. At last some sense has been made to the teaching of phonics. I am sure that all future learners will become life long readers as they find the emergence making good sense.

Very good. Lots more information than two years ago. Very informative doing it at school but this will really give much more insight.

At last! Thank you for your hard work, brilliance and lateral thinking. You’ve some, to get to this point “THRASS”. Thank you for recognising the talent in those you’ve included to help you. Wow!

Excellent! I loved the “conversational” way in which the course was presented. It made it interesting and lively and the time just flew by. This was all new to me so sometimes everyone was on the next part and I was still going “Huh?” but once I got what the point was, it went much better. I would definitely attend this type of course again. Alan was fantastic and his enthusiasm was catching!

I was a bit unsure when I entered through the door because I already had different opinions (some good and bad) from my colleagues about THRASS but I am glad I had an open mind because I have learnt a whole lot in a short space of time. I found it interesting seeing as I am fresh out of University and don’t have the thing whereby I teach kids about a silent ‘e’ and stuff. The staff at my school (well some of them) do not see how THRASS fits into Grade R and therefore still do Letterland and THRASS which confuses the kids but I see the gist of it. It was information overload but I am sure that I will be able to implement what I learnt in my own class one day. Alan, you are good at what you do!

Very stimulating and thought provoking content presented by an energetic, fun presenter . Will certainly start experimenting with this on my child tonight and I’m quite sure he’s going to eat it up.

Informative and enlightening. Gives a whole new dynamic to teaching Handing, Reading and Spelling etc. Very well presented – thank you!

A marvellous idea! Makes good common sense! Thoroughly enjoyable. Hope I can do justice to it. Can’t wait to begin with my 7 year olds!

This course is very fruitful, especially if you have remedial programmes at your school, and you can also use it in class as most of our learners need to be remediated, especially in spelling.

A wonderful course, if the government can finance the course for all the teachers.

Brilliant! Thank you. Can’t wait to go to school and get going.

Super presentation. Very worthwhile but quite overwhelming.

Excellent! Thank you! You have opened a new world. I believe in your philosophy. The material is of a very high standard.

It was a real eye-opener and it helps a lot. Alan Davies, you were a treat. Material is great, neat and easy to use.

Great, practical ideas presented enthusiastically! User-friendly material and resources.

Excellent visuals. Dynamic presenter. Most informative. Too much information to absorb over a two days period. Thank you – I learnt valuable information.

Very informative. Most entertaining. Very clear. Thank you so much.

Very enjoyable course! There was a lot of information to take in! I feel with some practise it could definitely work. Well done on a course well presented!

Opened up the field. You’re right, it’s the open-sesame ‘periodic table’ of sound and letters. Rather than being an amorphous area, it’s pinned down the subject and given us a route map – your most apt description. Congrats! Every success! You deserve it!

It was brilliant and I am excited to introduce it into my daily teaching. Course was- hands-on, interesting, liked the humour. Ta very much.

Very entertaining. Now have some different ideas to introduce Reading/Language and encourage Reading/Language. Will refuse to have Letterland.

Very interesting and informative. User-friendly. Concise form of teaching phonics. Outstanding. Brilliant.

A lot of information to take in!” Enthusiastic but might need another update once put it into practice. Enjoyable – don’t knock too much of our previous teaching as there were a lot who did learn to spell and read! Has been a change in parenting – no time to read stories – too much T.V., T.V. games, parenter always working. Thus, children of today are not immersed in reading!

Thank you for a wonderful course. I learned much. Please add the seasons to the calendar chart plus very sunny/cloudy/rainy/cold.

The course was very good. I was empowered as now I know how to use letters together to do their job.

Superb! Very inspiring. Well organised – excellent provision of course material.

Fantastic! I can’t wait to use this on my kids. I thoroughly enjoyed this course. It was an awesome experience!

Brilliant! Very exciting! Can’t wait to implement it!

Super presenter – clear, exciting. Very informative, clear visual aids. Will definitely be back for more.

Very informative – energising – exciting. I love learning new things and can’t wait to try THRASS.

The course was very good but I would definitely love it if every thing would be done also in Zulu so as to help children who are doing Zulu as a second language.

Amazing course – very thought provoking. I would love to get started on it straight away and hope our school will be able to get all the resources. I also want to use it on my own children who read and spell so poorly.

I really enjoyed the enthusiasm of Alan. He made the course very interesting and I can use it very nicely in Physical Education lessons.

Excellent! Very interesting. A lot to absorb. I learned a lot.

A brilliant course, thank you. Hope to see you in Swaziland. Would love to see it in action at school but will definitely use the video clips. There’s a huge need in Swazi-Government schools for English to be taught correctly. This course is amazing. Thank you again for a wonderful presentation!

This course was really worth the time and effort. I thoroughly enjoyed it and felt that I learnt a lot! I can’t wait to get back to school and get started!

I thoroughly enjoyed the course. The concept is excellent (really makes sense). Practical suggestions in implementation were given which I really liked. Well presented.

Amazing! Can’t wait to learn more and give it a go. A lot to take in in a short period of time. Alan you are an amazing presenter – thank you!

Excellent BUT too much information for two days.

A wonderful tool for reconstructing my English lessons into valuable aids/sources for children to build their own language ability upon. Well done and thank you.

A totally different approach to teaching Reading and Spelling. I learned a lot and will apply it in my teaching. Well-thought through. I’m glad I came across this as I have a five-year-old and can start working on THRASS with her.

Stimulating, interesting – makes so much sense! Thoroughly enjoyable. Alan, thank you for clearing so many issues for us. The only problem is it is tricky to get round the system and it would be lovely to have more time to practise and then ask questions.

Wonderful new ideas. A bit too much information! Well done! Would love to see the Afrikaans version!

Alan was fantastic. It was great to have him as the presenter of the course. Now when I am at school I will know what the rest of the staff and kids are talking about! Think THRASS is great.

Very interesting and entertaining. It makes a lot of sense. Can’t wait to implement some of the things I learnt in class on Monday.

An inspiring two days, thank you.

Excellent.

It was beautifully presented. However, a bit too much information to take in. Content very practical and relevant – able to identify with and implement easily. With practise, will become easier. It was great.

Lovely course! Very interesting/unorthodox approach, but at the same time, will leave here, extremely enthusiastic. However, two days too short. Suggest a three-day course. Best of luck.

Very good – kept us entertained! I have been successfully converted from Letterland. Thoroughly well presented. We need to educate the “Pre-school” world who are Letterland mad.

Thank you for a lovely course. I have learned a lot and will surely implement the suggestions and ideas in my class.

Good.

Very interesting programme. I will immediately start with your programme.

Very good programme. I can’t wait to start with my Grade 1 class.

You have changed my world for the better. Thannx! It was a fabulous, eye-opening experience.

The course was extremely informative. It’s wonderful to get away from ‘Letterland’ and have a useful tool to replace it. I look forward to implementing this programme with numerous children. The presenter is entertaining with a never ending supply of energy.

Very stimulating, attention grabbing and inspiring. Breaks down stereotypical thought patterns and “brainwashing”. Main concept is clearly explained and emphasised. Stage progression is explained – given tools to investigate and learn further for oneself.

A really exceptional THRASS course. It was brilliantly presented. I arrived feeling very sceptical and am a total THRASS convert! There simply is no other way to teach Reading, Writing and Spelling.

It was BRILLIANT. I am so excited and can’t wait to implement THRASS in the classroom. Alan, I nominate you for a Grammy Award – an excellent performance!

A wonderful course presented with great panache – motivating and enthusing us – look forward to applying THRASS and Thrassing it.

Wonderful! Have not had so much fun and learnt so much for many years. I can’t wait to get into my Grade 2 class on Monday and share with them.

The most worthwhile course I have ever been on. Can’t wait to get back to school and get started. Children are going to love it!

Amazing! Want our entire school to attend. Alan, you kept us on our toes throughout the course.

Absolutely super! One of the best courses I have ever been on (and believe me I have been on LOTS). Thank you for the inspiration to just go and implement as soon as possible.

Wow! Best time spent on a course ever. Thanks Alan, we need more people like you interested in educators and children! Can’t wait to implement this in my class/school.

Wow – amazing and so simple. Should be standard procedure for every school everywhere.
