Wow! What a fantastic programme. A definite paradigm shift is required in my teaching. An innovative and creative way in teaching our children to read, write and spell. Music will definitely keep us all awake and alert. THRASS will allow our children to develop and acquire an important life skill – hence improve the literacy level of our nation. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity.

What a refreshing three days – I was blown away by the brilliant presentations by Laola. I found the methodology of THRASS fascinating. What a clever combination of so many reading, spelling and writing approaches. I have never seen such a comprehensive programme! I learnt more in 3 days than all my KG1 – 50+ years of literacy learning! Thank you so much for the opportunity to be updated and finally get the info that I have been dying for, for years.

An empowering course with a dynamic presenter. Reading Writing and Spelling will take a whole new dimension in the classroom. I feel as if I have a ‘gift’ to offer to our learners. I now have the tools to break through that Literacy wall. What a blessing for our school!

I thoroughly enjoyed the course. I personally thought it was very well presented and the information and materials used were of excellent quality and of a very high standard. The THRASS course has really provided me with a whole new view towards teaching literacy skills. I have always been wary of today’s current teaching methods and this programme has really excited me and inspired me to learn more about THRASS and become involved in what it has to offer.

A very interesting course. I really enjoyed it. The material is lovely and this programme will bring a lot of excitement in the teaching world. I particularly love the music material.

Outstanding! I have had some previous experience of working with THRASS when I worked as an intern at a school, but this course has just expanded my knowledge and I definitely gained a lot of useful and valuable information. Laola was brilliant in presenting the information and giving us a good basis and understanding of THRASS. THRASS is amazing and I really hope to be able to attend further THRASS courses in the future!

THRASS is a workable programme, which helps improve literacy in schools, especially where learners are English second language learners. I enjoyed this course and have gained knowledge which I will impart to my learners. Thank you ABSA and to Laola for an excellent presentation.

“Children are the living messages we send in a time we will not see.” This programme is phenomenal. It encompasses holistic teaching in a very modern world of technology. Previously we were looking into a valley, now we are looking at a mountain of knowledge opening the eyes of children to the windows of the world. Laola must be commended for her outstanding presentation and passion at this workshop.

Thoroughly enjoyable. Although I had heard of THRASS, I had never really understood it. I am now able to understand and appreciate the importance and benefit of THRASS. I have learnt a lot and look forward to implementing this programme in my future teaching career! I have been inspired!

Presented in an excellent manner. I was kept entertained while receiving loads of info, which made it easier to understand and stay focused on what was being taught. I feel that this is a fantastic method of teaching, and if done correctly, could make a huge impact in our schools. I’m very excited to start using the programme and hopefully I can get it going in our local school.

The THRASS approach is an amazing way to teach learners a far simpler way of learning to spell and write, as it gives the child a more realistic view on the sounds that words make, thus making it easier for them to recognise words when reading and spelling.

Very informative and I learnt a lot. I think that THRASS is an amazing programme. I will definitely implement it in my teaching. This programme helped me understand how to go about teaching handwriting, reading and spelling.

A very dynamic programme, well presented. Laola has shown that it is possible to be implemented by anyone. A very well thought out, and put together programme. THRASS will make all teachers look good and feel good. THRASS could not have come sooner. Looking forward to implementation!

It was a very powerful, enjoyable, dynamic brainteaser. I know it is going to work!

THRASS is a brilliant programme. This has opened my eyes to the infinite possibilities of making every learner an efficient and effective reader. I teach Grade 7’s, a few of whom are functionally illiterate. I have hope now that I can help them to read. The course was well presented, interactive and most interesting. Thank you to our sponsors, ABSA. A standing ovation to Alan Davies.

Very interesting. Helped me understand how the whole thing works and helped with ideas on how to implement them. Great course. Enjoyed it a lot.

Thoroughly enjoyable. I have learnt a great deal. I know that when I become a qualified teacher, I will make a success of this and use it efficiently in my teaching because of what I have learnt at this workshop. I cannot wait to start using this with my future class and learners. It was a success.

An unbelievable experience and I learnt a lot from it. I am certainly going to use it in a classroom environment. Can’t wait for an Afrikaans version!

A fantastic approach to what we, as educators always grapple with – spelling and phonics. Hope our nightmares will end soon. I’m really looking forward to using this with my kids. I’m sure they will get as much joy from this programme as I did. Thanks Laola and ABSA for this wonderful gift.

Our students have thoroughly enjoyed this workshop. Some of them have seen THRASS taught in schools and have said that these schools are not doing it properly! We need Laola back to run refresher courses on Saturdays at our VC campuses for teachers – in Durban and in PMB.

I have gained a fairly good understanding. Waiting to implement it in the classroom. Spoken to relatives who are also teachers – they are so keen to try this – but the cost! Laola, you have been great! Hope we meet often and have more workshops. The Sing-A-Long is also good.

Useful and interesting. It should be used in all schools as it gives teachers the opportunity to help all learners to become successful learners. I will definitely use THRASS when I have my own class!

I enjoyed the course very much. It was interesting and an eye opener for new ways of teaching. I think it will be a good opportunity to implement THRASS into schools. It provides teachers with new methods of teaching.

Structured logically. It was very interesting to learn the THRASS method and see on the video clips how it was implemented. I am looking forward to getting more experience in a THRASS school - hopefully when I go on teaching practice. I know the basics and vocabulary, but don’t feel confident enough yet to implement it on my own now. I am glad about all the wonderful material we got, because then I can still read it up at home. It was also nice to have so many small activities in between that we could do to keep active.

THRASS has made me more confident about teaching Reading, Writing and Spelling. It was really interesting learning how to pronounce and understand the words and letters. I enjoyed the Rap song, but at first found it difficult. It was a fantastic workshop and I would recommend it because I learnt a lot and I think it would be great for all educators and pupils to be exposed to THRASS.

Extremely interesting and thorough. I think it is a very exciting method and am looking forward to incorporating it in the school I will end up teaching in. The programme has incredible insight into the way and methods which children use. I think that it is structured, yet broad enough to be creative and allows one to use your own ideas.

This course has been an exciting journey through literacy. It was so well presented as well as informative! Beautiful aids and a dynamic speaker! I will definitely start implementing this method in my class. Thank you for an enjoyable, informative ride!

I was unable to attend the first day, which would have been relevant for my lecturing. I will read up in the guide and hopefully be able to understand the approach. It is clear that THRASS definitely is the way to go and should be part of the National Curriculum. A very exciting programme.
