A stimulating, enriching and
enlightening course. I can now teach reading, spelling and writing skills with
much more confidence. The singing and dancing approach is great fun for both
learners and teachers. Thank you for a fun-filled and educational two days.
An eye-opener. I wish I knew all this before I started teaching. I would have
done things differently. The course was excellent. Exciting, toe-tapping and a
laugh-a-minute. Thanks for a great workshop!
Stimulating – presented in a way that kept us involved and interested all the
time. Can’t wait to go back and get started!
Wow! Absolutely brilliant! We are currently using the resources we received from
Absa and are having so much fun. A wonderful course. Very informative. I now
know what to do with it and can have even more fun!
Excellent. A successful method to improve literacy levels. A strategy that
learners will enjoy. Very updated, enjoyable fun learning. Presenter
outstanding. A MUST for all schools.
Thrilling, exciting, fun, fabulous and fantastic. I’ve learned a lot and cannot
stop! Need to share with everyone. This course is a miracle coming true for
special schools.
I see a “whole new world” for my Grade 4 learners in terms of reading and
spelling! Alan was excellent – and funny too!
An eye-opener. Wish I had learnt to spell this way. Awesome presentation and
very entertaining. Wish all teachers could attend. Can’t wait to go back and
start. Thank you soooo much!
Most interesting workshop. I am impressed with the amount of language
stimulation included in the programme. Encompasses a holistic view of reading
and spelling I look forward to using THRASS.
Very dynamic presenter. Beneficial. Hands-on approach. Incorporates teaching
handwriting, reading and spelling skills in different stages. A must workshop
for every educator. Enjoyed every activity
Wow! Wish I had been taught this when I was in school. Spelling would have been
a lot easier. Alan is very energetic and knows how to keep everyone motivated.
Loved the course.
Extremely interesting and informative. I enjoyed the presentation and found it
stimulating. Certainly learnt a lot!
An excellent, interactive course. I wish I had attended this course a long time
ago – so that implementation would have been well ahead. Wow! Well done!
Very informative and encouraging. Alan is fantastic. However, may I suggest that
all educators are given the opportunity to attend a course of this nature. Each
area should have a THRASS support group to assist educators in adopting this new
approach in class with confidence.
Very informative. I certainly did learn a lot about our English Language that I
didn’t already know. It gives me some inside knowledge about phonetics which I
had not studied for my degree which I could possibly implement in my teaching.
An amazing course and I can’t wait to begin teaching it to my children. It is
very concrete which I love. The music is fun and rich and the kids are going to
adore it. I do the foundation phase and am jealous of all the other teachers
that are going to be doing it with the older kids.
Really good and can be implemented into any class and at any grade. It would be
nice to see how to change from the phonics programmes we are doing at the moment
to THRASS. The terminology is too difficult for remedial classes and younger
grades.
Very interesting course. I have heard so much about THRASS and it was great
learning about what it entails. I have always been extremely happy with
Letterland but I do realise that English has so many exceptions to the rule and
THRASS certainly covers all these English rules.
Brilliant! I am convinced, but am not sure if we can convince the rest of our
team, particularly in this poor economic climate. I like the energy and vibrancy
of it all. Wish the course was longer to understand more thoroughly EXACTLY how
to begin implementing it from scratch - changing over from a pretty successful
Letterland.
Gosh! Given us a lot to think about. Our basis is Letterland, so we have much to
change (and colleagues to convince!). Thank you for your energy and passion for
teaching children (and teachers) the right way!
Excellent presentation of a very comprehensive reading and spelling scheme. A
lot of hard work lies ahead and a complete “change of mind” is necessary.
Brilliant workshop. Very informative.
Excellent workshop by Alan. Innovative.
An informative course which was interestingly and energetically presented.
Excellent “hands on” presentation. Wish THRASS was around earlier. I will most
definitely be implementing the series and thinking of Alan’s presentational
skills in the classroom!
A very innovative method of teaching phonics. The presentation was excellent but
should have been over at least a week! Learners will be able to complete all the
phonics much faster than the conservative method that I used previously. I am
pleased to have been afforded this opportunity.
Excellent - lots of practical, tangible activities and goodies. I enjoyed
interacting with so many teachers from a wide variety of contexts. I wish I had
a few children to practise on – my poor husband doesn’t know what’s coming his
way this weekend! I was already ‘gut’ convinced by THRASS – now have a lot of
‘logic’ and ‘let me show you’ tactics to back it up. However, my biggest concern
remains the calibre and commitment of the teachers in some South African
schools. I really do look forward to following up with ‘our’ schools and seeing
what they do with what they’ve learnt.
Easy to follow. It was logical. I could see everything and use visual skills. It
incorporated the curriculum and can be used in an integrated way. Cross-culture
in the music. English can be a truly rainbow language. I loved every minute of
the course. I am very excited!
An innovative way to look at words and reading. So much information in such a
short time. Need to spend a little more time. Really enjoyed it and I will be
able to help the children at my school.
A fantastic system. Alan is a vibrant, generous presenter. He has thought of
every aspect of teaching reading, including letter formation. The rhymes, the
card games, flash cards, songs have been so well researched. I cannot praise
this system enough. I have ‘THRASSED’ for the last 2 days and am convinced this
is the way to teach children how to read and write. Brilliant!
A wonderful two days. Very stimulating! Would really like to implement THRASS in
our school.
It was amazing and refreshing to see a new outlook to teaching. I am very
excited to implement it in my Grade R. class. Looking forward to a long weekend
of videos and music.
Thought it was brilliant! Thank you for explaining how THRASS works. Looking
forward to using this new method in our school.
Totally awesome! Enjoyable. I am looking forward to using it. I think this will
help me teach English much better, rather than confusing them like I have been
doing all these years.
A great deal of inspirational ideas. Will take a lot of time converting
management and the phase, but will start with Grade R educator. Remedial/speed
use in Intermediate and High School. Loved my two days. Love music C.D. – will
definitely use it.
A well presented course. Two days not sufficient to digest all this lovely
stuff. Thank you Alan for being so dynamic and entertaining!
It was informative, well planned and interesting.
Excellent. Learnt very much. Presenter presented course in a very stimulating
manner.
Very good. It was an eye opener and will help us to fit in to our programme that
we used at school. Although the time was short to grasp all the information.
Very enriching, stimulating experience. Presenter was awesome. Course was
exciting and informative. Would love to implement soon.
Very informative and an eye (ear) opener to me as it has made me realise that I
have actually been teaching my learners incorrectly. The presenter was very
dynamic. My task now would be to teach my learners the THRASS way!
Makes a lot of sense. Excited to implement.
We enjoy your teaching. It is very encouraging. I wish all educators will get
this opportunity.
Brilliant course by a dynamic presenter. Have been to THRASS workshops at
different schools but have never felt motivated to use this programme until now.
Had lots of fun. Exciting new ideas. Thanks for the laughs. Had a great two days
– need to talk school into buying all the resources!
Excellent – I would love to try this because I believe that it has many positive
qualities. Very entertaining presentation. Would love to see it implemented at
my school.
The course was most rewarding. Alan is a gem! Highly motivating and inspiring. I
feel so excited and enthusiastic to go and start with my new journey to derive
pleasure at school. I loved every bit of it!
Very dynamic – huge amount of information in just two days. A wonderful
experience. I look forward to implementing this approach in my class.
We are currently implementing it in our school. The course was fun and learnt a
lot. Thank you for the better understanding of THRASS.
Very informative and there were good resources that were used. It would have
been more helpful to hear more about how to teach older children about THRASS.
Enjoyed myself, learnt a lot, loved the music and the songs. Two days not enough
time. Would like more training and courses.
Well done. Love the music and eager to sing it with the little kids. Two days –
too short.
Excellent.
A truly new dimension to teaching phonics and spelling. Very informative. Ideal
resources. However, more time for workshop. Video clips were very motivating.
It was an enjoyable, interesting and thoroughly informative course. Very well
presented.
This course was very empowering.
Truly inspirational. Opened up a whole new way of looking at words and sounds.
We’ve been restricted for far too long to a boring scheme of work. Can’t wait to
introduce THRASS.
Really makes sense. How we did phonics in the past and thought it made sense is
beyond me. Now that I have attended this course I wish this course was spread
over more than two days, as it is quite a bit to take in and learn and to
remember when implementing.
Well presented. Good use of visual aids. Course material was well appreciated.
However, perhaps course should be done over three days and not two so not
overloaded with too much information at one go. Remember, not easy to teach an
old dog new tricks!
Extremely enjoyable. An eye opener. THRASS is most certainly going to help my
kids with reading and spelling. Would love to attend more THRASS courses.
A very interesting presentation. Informative. Hands-on presentation. Covered all
aspects of literacy improvement. Interactive participation was maintained
throughout the THRASS workshop. Implemented well. However, could have been done
over more days. Less straining.
Great! Very informative. Fabulous tool. Lots of information but very logical and
user-friendly.
Very informative! Great to see what our staff are using and trying to achieve.
Interested in how we manage the progression and succession into the sectors and
what effect it will have.
Wonderful opportunity to get a broad overview. Now know where we are going.
Fantastic!
Excellent. This approach is far more sensible and exposes learners to a wider
range of sounds, making easier spelling and reading. From a Speech Therapy view,
this is an excellent way of integrating language, vocabulary and articulation
skills. Well done! Looking forward to using it!
A fun-filled, rejuvenating course. Wanting to go back and implement it at
school.
This course has revolutionised the way reading and spelling can be taught. I
will definitely implement this method at our school. It is certainly
entertaining and exciting and invigorating!
Presentation – excellent and interactive. Very comprehensive. Lots of
information conveyed. Makes sense of English language (to teach reading). Videos
shown means its working in schools where English is not mother tongue. Love use
of songs/dance to make learning language fun/interesting.
Brilliant delivery. I am all motivated for change. Makes sense to me. Goodbye
‘Wicked Water Witch’!
A motivational course. Really helps to identify and rectify spelling and reading
in learners who have problems later in schooling career. It also shows how these
problems can be prevented if the program is followed correctly. However, my
concern lies in the fact that it should be targeted to the Department of
Education in that it should be made a compulsory part of the curriculum.
