GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS ONE-DAY FOUNDATION,
LEEDS, JUNE 18, 2007

Portable Document Format

Most of this was new to me. Despite having taught primary children for more than 30 years, I remember no training being given to me on phonic teaching. I really enjoyed the day and I learned a lot. I wish this system of teaching phonics would be adopted by the government in Britain as the “national approach” as it seems so rational and relevant.

Very useful and finally somebody has explained phonics.

Very clear – lots to take in. Wish I had been taught using this!

Wish I had been taught this at school. Well delivered.

Super day. I wish I had been taught in this way. Excited to introduce this within my classroom.

A real way forward for children who really struggle with spelling – intend to use this initially with Literacy/SEN intervention groups with a view to extending it throughout school. Excellent presentation.

Enthusiastic and well-informed delivery. Gave me lots to think about. Liked resources and charts. Super web site (especially lips/sounds). Rap very good. My children would love it.

Very good. Lots of information. Gained more knowledge. Benefits all ages including babies. Will take it on board in my phonics teaching. Love charts. Really love raps!

Well paced, interesting course, which will allow children to access the intricacies of the language! The day made a great deal of sense.

Has moved my knowledge of spelling choices and THRASS forward immensely. I am looking forward to attending the two-day course and implementing this in school and with parents.

Very informative, presented in an interesting way. Good subject knowledge and enthusiasm has made the THRASS programme clear.

A very well presented and informative session. Very thought provoking and has implications on our whole school approach.

Very valuable and allowed me to reflect on my own teaching and understand the THRASS approach. I was pleased to see that it is a whole school approach and also covers spelling and handwriting.

A super day! Very interesting (and hard work). I am looking forward to using the materials. As SENCO I feel it will have a huge impact on many of the pupils.

Informative, practical. Useful for all age groups. Some helpful ideas even if not using THRASS. Fun course!

Thank you for a very enjoyable and informative day. A lot of consolidation for me.

Thought provoking informative. A great day!

A great day. Lots to think about. Can’t wait to get started.

An informative day with a lot to digest and reflect upon. Impressive scheme. Perhaps more emphasis needed on the practicalities of introducing the scheme at various stages/year groups within a school.

Has given me ideas for whole school approach to spelling.

Excellent, inspirational stuff. Good resources, plenty of time to discuss misunderstandings. Plenty of ideas how to apply throughout the school. Can’t wait to get started!

Fantastic day with plenty of ideas for practical classroom life – whole school or single class. I’m off to revise the English policy!

Really enjoyable. Very interesting. Lots of ideas to support teachers.

Brilliant, really enjoyable, inspirational. Can’t wait to get started.

An interesting day with a lot of valuable information to take back to school.

Inspirational but found it a lot to take on board in one day. Interesting. Excellent subject knowledge.

Some interesting points.

A very informative day. I hope to have the opportunity to do Day 2.

Excellent – really well presented and informative.

What an inspirational presenter! I have gained a great deal of knowledge about THRASS and now feel confident to start putting the principles into practice. I will certainly look at what I have been teaching my foundation stage children and begin making some changes, particularly emphasising letter names as well as sounds. Many thanks for a challenging and thought-provoking course.

I found it interesting and feel that it will be useful. Tutor was very enthusiastic which passed on to the members of the group.

Plenty to take back to school. Delivered very well with energy and enthusiasm. Explained process in an easy to understand way.

Made a lot of sense. First time I have had any phonics training. A lot to take in. Poor memory so found some parts difficult.

Very clearly taught, excellent resources (assessment, ICT, activities etc). Well organised. Subject knowledge excellent. Good demonstration of using differentiation for less able and more able.

Good course, clear and informative. Good use of resources. Good presentation.

Very informative and fun course that our Local Authority should adopt and cascade to all.
