Very informative and interactive. Lots of resources to sample and look through. Liked VAK aspect of THRASS, also different media used (Interactive Whiteboard, C.D, Magnetic Board).

An excellent presentation – relevant and pacy. Everything was very clearly explained and continually reinforced throughout. The practical activities were useful. The enthusiasm of Hilary was most evident throughout.

Very interesting. A lot of information presented in an “up beat”, cheerful manner. Enjoyable and fun.

Very stimulating day. Delivered with clarity and animation. Could make a big difference to need for Wave 2 if we can get everyone in school on board. Thanks Hilary.

Valuable course about theory and phonics. I liked the way THRASS links with the IPA – that makes dictionary pronunciation more ‘reachable’ for children. Lots of information to take in for a one day training session.

The course was very helpful to see how to combine sounds with the letter names, when teaching children to read, write and spell. Lots of colourful resources available that can be used with a variety of age ranges of children. Wonderfully presented.

The THRASS scheme itself seems full of content and complicated in parts. However, it was explained very clearly and was interesting. I felt I understood the aims of the scheme and understood the reasons behind the choices made. I was very impressed with the interactive white board activities.

At first I thought it was too hard to take in but by lunchtime I realised I understood it. I expect by using it daily you would soon become familiar with it. On the whole I enjoyed the day.

Fast pace. Increased understanding of this subject. Need more ideas about how to implement in Yr. 5/6.

Changed my mind about what I thought of the THRASS program – didn’t particularly want to change from what we were doing but very keen to try it now.

Have a better understanding of THRASS now. However, could find it hard to implement in Yr. 5/6, as (if I jumped to the stage my top set Y6 literacy, are at, i.e. mostly competent spellers: better than me!) they would find it either unnecessary or lack of familiarity in scheme (through fact they did not learn phonics this way at an earlier age) and cause confusion. If I were to move year groups I would need a refreshers course as I think that in order to be competent in THRASS I would need to start using it now.
