GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS TWO-DAY CERTIFICATE,
BIRMINGHAM, JUNE 21-22, 2007

Portable Document Format

Wow! Great content, delivery – everything was excellent. Thanks. Materials valuable, attractive and extremely informative. Love the schemes of work. Alan’s enthusiasm has you gripped from beginning to end and made me want to be a disciple!

Many thanks for an action-packed two days! I can understand and appreciate the logic and theories and now need to forget all prior learning and start at the same level as the children! The resources are fantastic and the amount of free resources is excellent. There is so much to take in and think about. It was great to be on a course that is non-stop from the opening minute. Alan is such an enthusiast it would be hard not to be convinced.

Alan you are so energetic, it is unbelievable. You are brilliant for coming up with this idea and schemes of work. Finally something to make our jobs easier.

Excellent course. Indeed an eye-opener as to how English as a language can be taught with so much ease and fun. The concept of teaching phonics with THRASS, as opposed to traditional method used so far, is more convincing and practical.

I will be much better equipped to teach my children phonics, reading and writing next year. Thank you.
Will enjoy all resources given.

Loads of information, excellent pace, engaging. Plenty of opportunity for questions and answers. Great modelling, practical application. Fantastic.

An excellent two days with lots of wonderful ideas to implement in the classroom. Great use of resources to demonstrate how to actually use them in school.

Excellent course. I feel completely inspired and want to get started. It makes perfect sense to me and I wish I had been taught this way at University. I intend to tell my tutor about it and recommend it to them. Resources excellent – very user-friendly. And of a high quality. Also very impressed that so many of them are free. Phoneme Machine brilliant. I thought the pace of the course was good and Alan was an excellent presenter. Thanks very much!

I profited a lot from the course. Great resources and lively/expert presenter. I am eager to implement THRASS for my next Y6 children as well as my own children.

Excellent, very intensive and informative.

Our SENCO is very much in favour of THRASS and I was glad of the opportunity to find out what it’s all about. Loads of information and useful ideas for teaching tips given; very animated presentation. I enjoyed the raps.

The course has made everything much clearer. I have a much clearer idea how to teach the program.

A lot of content covered in two days, but all appropriate and useful. A lot of my questions and misconceptions were answered. Now I think it will be my confidence in THRASS that will take me forward, but definitely think I will need a follow-up session soon to ensure I am doing it correctly.

Excellent. Can understand THRASS a lot more now and feel comfortable teaching the children and found a lot more use in handwriting, reading, sentence work and spellings.

Fabulous! Am buzzing after two days of great THRASS immersion. Well presented. Keen to get started as soon as possible.

Inspirational! I was unsure when I first came but, after a few minutes was hooked and convinced! Can’t wait to get going in September. Thank you for a brilliant two days!

Very interesting, new approach to teaching phonics. I feel I will have more confidence in this once I start. I am confident the result will be extremely successful. I just wish I had been taught in this way.

Very helpful course. I now feel a lot more confident with teaching THRASS.

Very good ideas and clear descriptions of the different terms. Helped with what to do with the children and how to help them progress with the scheme through their education.

Very informative, active presentation. Wish we could have gone into more depth and played some of the games and activities. Enjoyed the rap.

Very useful and given me much more confidence. Motivated me to go home and learn the THRASS rap.

I thought the course was very interesting and enjoyed the way I was taught. It was informative and fun. I will practise at home with my own young daughter.

Very interesting and lively course that enlightens you to think of a different approach to phonics teaching. Would be useful if the picture book corresponded with the pupil THRASS chart going in order across rather than descending down.

Lots of useful ideas and good examples of how to use the resources. Very intense, but impressive!

Lots of information to take in over the two days! Would benefit from more practical activities. Great range of resources. Would possibly need more information on how it could be implemented in upper KS2 when all children know how to spell.

Some useful parts. I feel you could not integrate the ‘whole’ training package as it appears to be too complicated for children to understand, e.g. consonant, blend etc. Some good ideas however.

I understand all aspects of the course and I believe this is because it was explained very well. All my questions were answered very well. The pace of the delivery was lively and quick.

The course was extremely engaging and stimulating. Alan was able to explain the purpose and techniques for teaching THRASS clearly and concisely. I personally would urge anyone who wants to ease the difficulties that children face when learning to read, write and spell to come on this course.

Good to finally get the background knowledge after two years of supply teaching at school – has been difficult to understand methods before now. I now feel more confident in my ability to teach this to KS2 children but feel that more course content based on foundation stage/transition stage would have been more helpful to my situation. Might also be useful to see demonstration lessons focussed in this area (actually seeing lessons being taught in UK foundation stage).

Again, very exhilarating but would like to use it alongside approaches/resources to support early year’s phonics. Picture Book very useful but would like to correspond with pupil THRASS chart – where the A3 (open book) page need to have the images to run across the whole entire two pages.

Interesting and obvious points made clear and accessible. Would have preferred resources each (not in pairs) for ease of use. Others found the pace necessary but I would have preferred it to be faster.

Really enjoyable. Found it very interesting. Disappointed not to have own copies of all resources.

Some good, useful points. Very exhausting! Lots to take in for teachers – so even more for children!

Good ideas and strategies to take back to class and implement. Clear delivery. Good pace.

The training was lively and very interesting. The trainer covered all areas set out. Lots of useful materials both paper and on Internet.
