GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS TWO-DAY CERTIFICATE,
ESSEX, JUNE 14-15, 2006

Portable Document Format

Informative and enjoyable. Lots of questions raised but answered thoroughly. Hilary was inspiring.

Excellent course. Opened whole new teaching possibilities and strategies that I will begin immediately in class. An enthusiastic, lively course. Wonderful.

The course was well planned and focused. It was delivered in an exciting, lively and enthusiastic way which held the interest and attention of all.

Excellent course. So much jammed into two days! Lots of things have come clear regarding the way children learn/understand – answered lots of questions. Need to spend the weekend looking closely at the resources to consolidate. I’d like to follow this up by looking at demonstration lessons – seeing it in action. Hilary was very open to addressing our particular needs and how we could apply THRASS to our children. Thank you very much.

Learnt so much. Thankyou! – both for my teaching and my own subject knowledge. Am looking forward to implementing it when I get back to school. Really good resources and shown great ideas of how to use them! Appreciated the opportunity to ask questions relevant to our own situation as KS2 teacher. A fun way to learn for both myself and my children! Thank you Hilary and THRASS!

Very enthusiastic course leader, clear explanations and good delivery. Concise overview of whole teaching programme.

Very interesting and useful. A novel idea – but seems quite complicated! Perfect length course. Great resources to hand. Hilary was lovely!

Clear, concise instructions. Enjoyable interaction. Good resources.

Learnt a lot, but lots of sitting and talking. Would appreciate more hands-on activities over two days. It has really changed the way I think about hearing words and sounds, and answered a lot of questions.

Very good – a very thorough phonics program. Am very interested in the new book coming out – THRASS 15 Minutes A Day – to see how this would be broken down and taught in Reception and Y1. Keen to visit a THRASS school now and see how this looks in the classroom.

A good overview. I’m not sure how someone who was not familiar with the materials beforehand would understand from this two days. I felt it crammed too much in too short a time. The timings were erratic. I felt the first day was very slow – didn’t cover enough – the second day galloped through too quickly. I feel breaks are important for recharging batteries and preparing for the next session. Shortening the breaks is not ‘cost-effective’ in terms of being able to concentrate in the next session. I personally very much enjoyed the course and learned a great deal. I feel I will be able to use THRASS much more effectively now and explain it to colleagues.

Many thanks for two inspirational days! The sessions were broken up into appropriate sections (not too long). The resources available are colourful, attractive and durable and Hilary explained how to use them continuously. Can’t wait to have a go! Once again – thankyou.

The course was very in-depth and enjoyable. The different stages were covered well and revisited several times which re-enforced the learning. I found some areas difficult to take in but I am sure will fall in to place as I use the system.

A very stimulating and enjoyable course. I think THRASS will form the basis of my teaching to EAL beginners in future.

Very informative and enjoyable. Good presentation, pace, use of resources. Free resources; brilliant.

Very thorough and clear instructions. Well organised. Excellent resources. A wealth of information.

The course raised a lot of new ways to teach literacy. I could see how it will be extremely useful, although introducing it to whole school wasn’t covered and the issue of telling people they need to learn a new way of teaching seems very daunting. It could be very difficult in a severe Special Needs school, but I promise I will try!

Extremely useful, well presented. Hilary had answers to all our questions. I am leaving convinced that THRASS could be successful in our school. We have actually got THRASS cards and CDs but if you don’t know what to do they are not much use – but now they are. Will go on website to purchase other resources which I think are essential.

I’m very pleased to have attended this training. I will definitely use this with my students with EAL. I’m already excited! I can’t wait to use it with my own baby, who is only a few months old!

This course opened my eyes on how to teach H.R. and S.S.! Valued all the practical ideas and now know how to use the resources back in the States. I would appreciate any e-mails regarding new resources or initiatives. Thanks again.

Excellent! Incredibly informative. I can’t wait to go back to school and put in to practice in the classroom. Many, many thanks.

Well delivered, very enthusiastic. It was very informative.

Enjoyable course. A lot of information to take in but look forward to using it.

Found the first day heavy going, but everything made far more sense on Day 2. The international phonic information was very interesting. Will open my dictionary when I get home.

A lot to take in! (but enjoyable!) A very good, well delivered course. Some parts were covered in much less detail and may involve a lot more research/reading on our part but in two days it gave a very thorough introduction. Good use/demonstration of resources. Enthusiastic/motivating course leader.

Happy atmosphere. Good to see resources. Enjoyed it and wanted to listen. Very visual (VIP – seeing I am a visual learner).

A very informative course using a range of resources. Making it quite easy to understand the processes to help the children progress through the various stages. Thanks.

The course was very informative and delivered in an enthusiastic manner. I feel I will now be able to use it with confidence.

Extremely informative and enjoyable. I have learnt so much and feel inspired to go back to school and get THRASSING! I also realised that THRASS can be taught successfully within the foundation stage and I look forward to implementing it in my class.

Explanations were clearly explained for rationale behind THRASS, therefore easier to grasp. Delivery was clear with appropriate examples, all questions clearly answered as came up. Friendly delivery of information. I was able to sustain interest and concentration through this course because of pace and mix of non-threatening group or paired activity, and instruction. This was the most engaging and useful two day course I have been on.
