GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS TWO-DAY CERTIFICATE, EASTERN CAPE, SA, JULY 27-28, 2007

Portable Document Format

Finally! A logical, no-excuses methodology that incorporates all the learners in the class. A professionally and energetically presented course – I feel inspired about teaching spelling for the first time EVER! Thank you, Laola, for the awesome experience!

I was stimulated, encouraged, entertained and extended. I even looked forward to the second day, and I am eager to get back to school to begin using this with the children. This methodology is amazing and I wish I had learnt this when I was trained so many years ago. Thank you very much.

Wow! I learnt so much over the two days. Our own spelling and language skills were challenged. I can’t wait to share THRASS with the other teachers at school and start implementing it right away. Laola really takes time to connect with all present and shares her in-depth knowledge brilliantly.

An amazing insight into the most logical and innovative path to literacy that I have ever seen. It motivated me to incorporate it into my work as a speech therapist and encourage all schools I deal with, to adopt it. The course was presented in a dynamic and fun way and easy to comprehend.

This is great! I have an Occupational Therapy background and work with developmentally challenged children. The approach is great, as it supports developmental trends and is a holistic, multi-sensory learning approach, using the environment. Will certainly use the methods learnt in my practice.

Most excellent unpacking of THRASS, enabling me to walk away knowing what it is all about. I am very enthusiastic to now implement it!

Excellent! Can’t wait to get started! Thank you so much!

Well presented. Laola has a broad and in-depth knowledge of THRASS and teaching in general. For me, THRASS has meant a complete change of mind set and it will be a rewarding challenge.

Very informative, extremely worthwhile course. Gives a whole new perspective to the teaching of handwriting, reading and spelling. An excellent presentation by a dynamic, amazing presented.

Each stage of the THRASS programme was very clearly explained. It is a very different approach to teaching literacy, which makes sense to me. I am teaching older children, who have been taught with the more traditional programmes, and it hasn’t worked! I am looking forward to teaching them something that makes sense to them!

Thanks – have enjoyed an interesting and well-presented course. Look forward to going back to school to see how well we link the foundation phases using THRASS. Not sure how much will be used immediately, but long term prospects are exciting!

A well presented and thought-provoking course, which makes the teaching of spelling, in particular, fun and also makes the children think about words and composition of words rather than just rote memorisation.

Brilliant concept! Great presenter. Very inspiring. I loved the rap and I’m sure the children will love it as well.

Wow! This has been an invaluable experience! I can’t wait to get started and I am so glad to have this information available so that I can teach the pre-primary children the correct way from the outset! It just makes sense!

Very informative and a very sensible, constructive way to teaching the English language. I sometimes wish that I was taught or educated with this methodology in place – I do believe I would have looked at language from a different perspective. So well done to the founder, Mr. Davies and the presenter, Laola, who brought THRASS to us. It has indeed been a wonderful learning experience for me. Thanks a lot.

Well-presented, well-prepared and wonderful information and content matter. Can’t wait to get started!

As always, excited to get the empowering language information. I found that attending this two day workshop second time round, reinforcing. I discovered new info, like THRASS IT software, which I was not aware of before. A demonstration using learners with Special Needs was another evidence of THRASS working in different contexts. Keep it up.

A fantastic course and a wonderful way of introducing others to the English language. It seems easy for kids to learn and I look forward to implementing it.

Very well organised course. Very good presenter. Enjoyed the course. Wow! What a wonderful programme. How did we manage without it? I feel so excited about THRASS and cannot wait to pass it on to the children in my class.

Thank you for a wonderful two days. I have thoroughly enjoyed all that you have had to impart to us and hope to make much use of my knowledge gained.

Very excited – can’t wait to implement this methodology. Laola has been a very enthusiastic presenter – very approachable. It will be an advantage when the course material becomes available locally. Hope we can convince our school this is the way to go!

Well presented course with valuable information. On the whole, I feel the programme will work. There were aspects I did not agree with. I definitely agree that we do need to do away with cursive [the old style?] It would be great if each school could buy a “school licence” as opposed to a network licence for each computer.

Very informative. Exciting. Dynamic. Would suggest a “save” facility on the testing disc, as I’m facilitating 26 children and would find it difficult to get results before children clear or exit the programme. If this facility was accumulative, one could print out and evaluate their progress over a set period. Using children for examples made it come alive. Thanks again for a wonderful new methodology.

I certainly have learned a lot of valuable things. A fantastic programme, however, I would like to evaluate it over a period of time. Will take a lot of hard work from me, but I do not mind – sure it will be worth it. Would really like to get everyone on the staff on board!

Interesting presenter – kept attention of audience throughout! Very methodically presented and well explained. Exciting programme with lots of practical work for the classroom. Wonderful to be enriched as a teacher, with new material. Thank you for a most inspiring course.

A brilliant programme. Wish I knew about it twenty years ago. I have hope for my high school students who still cannot read or write. A brilliant presentation, too. Wish I could spend more time with you, Laola. Two days feel too short. Would have felt more competent and confident if we could more practical work.

Fantastic, clear, well-presented course. Lots to take in! Presenter was dynamic and captivating.

A wonderfully worked out programme. I liked the structure and repetition. Laola did a fantastic job in presenting the programme. It would be wonderful if schools can be subsidised by the public sector to help with the costs of charts etc.

Wonderful presenter. Charming, knowledgeable and very convincing! Shows a passion for her material and programme.

A comprehensive programme, covering all aspects of developing literacy skills. Well presented, knowledgeable, enthusiastic.

Enjoyable. Can’t wait to put THRASS into practice with my remedial learners. Will be happy to buy more resources when available in South Africa. Thank you for a well put together course.

Great ideas for use with pupils who cannot read nor do spelling yet. Look forward to implementing in the department and happy to enthuse the rest of the school as well. Thank you for your enthusiasm.

I have been wanting to do this course for a long time and at last I have done it! It is everything that I have read and heard about and more! Congratulations on a fantastic methodology as well as a terrific presenter! The two days have flown past and I cannot wait to implement what has been learnt.

I attended my second two day course, which allowed me to understand the detail which I could not process the first time round. It enabled me to consolidate examples for each stage so that I could apply my knowledge more meaningfully and practically in the classroom. I was able to sequence my understanding of the process with more clarity. Thank you, Laola, for your enthusiasm and expertise in sharing your vision to assist children.

Excellent, excellent, excellent, excellent … Daunting, but this is the way to go! Please follow up with the education departments so that this could become national and available to all schools in S.A. It will help second language pupils tremendously Please Mr. Mbeki or Mr. Mandela, we need this for all the pupils of South Africa. Thank you ABSA. You are a leader!
