GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS TWO-DAY CERTIFICATE,
DAY 2, MANCHESTER, JAN 7, 2008

Portable Document Format

Very interesting and educational. Greatly enjoyed. Brilliant presentation skills and good props. The presentation I received will definitely improve my teaching skills within THRASS.

Very useful – excellent presentation. Sing-A-Long I thought was excellent and makes learning fun.

Very good again. The scheme of work made more sense this time. Also saw more opportunities and ideas to extend what I currently do with THRASS.

Very informative and found articulation formation beneficial.

Informative. I am thrilled about the Sing-A-Long resources. It has been important because there is a clear idea on how to develop and teach the scheme of work through each stage and year groups, empowering children and possibly parents to become better independent readers and spellers.

Very enjoyable and informative – lots to take away, digest and implement. New Sing-a-long CD is great! Will help to engage even the most reluctant children I’m sure! Thanks for all the ideas for older children – really useful.

Very interesting insight into THRASS, a brilliant learning experience. I learned a lot and would definitely use THRASS at school and at home with younger family, i.e. nephews, nieces.

I thought the new song software was excellent and can’t wait to start using it. I’m still a little confused about how to pronounce some of the vowel sounds – especially due to accent. Really enjoyed the day and your enthusiasm for the scheme.

I loved the new song resources and can think of lots of ways of using them with the Nursery children. Good update/refresher on what we have already learned and has taken my understanding further. THRASS is ‘harder’ for the teacher initially but I feel that ultimately it is more rewarding for the children.

New song resource seems very useful and will engage the children I’m sure.

Well taught and very informative and the new resources are very exciting to teach.

Enjoyed song resources – a lot of information to take in, especially as missed Day One. Many resources to get head round. Many concerns about how to implement as words and sounds are also being used and worry about transition from class to class and tracking work covered.

Interesting and informative. Helped me to get a picture of how THRASS can be used with older children (I teach mainly FS). I love the new CD!

Excellent. I learnt a lot. I shall be using some of the strategies with my own children, on THRASS.

Very good. Interesting and new to me. More clear and aware of what THRASS is all about.

Gained a better understanding of the THRASS program – thank you for the insight. Informative.

Very informative, but a bit repetitive (went over same ground as Day 1). Would have been better to divide day into a) staff new to scheme and b) new materials for those who already attended Day 1.

Very similar to 1st day’s training – apart from the introduction to the new song software (which was good). Didn’t learn anything new, as I’ve been teaching THRASS regularly since the first day’s training. No doubt it was very useful to staff new to school/THRASS but not for me.

Loved the new songs. I think that the older children will respond well to these. I feel more prepared after the second day to tackle THRASS in a KS2 classroom – I wasn’t very confident before.

Very informative. Lots of teaching ideas. Good overview of teaching phonics.

Useful, but I would prefer more inset specifically focussed at foundation/KS1 with regard to the 15 minute lesson and daily progression – felt this was too jargon-laden. [“It is not jargon. This is the correct terminology! Do you also consider ‘circle’, ‘triangle’ and ‘square’ to be jargon? This was not a ‘15 Minutes a Day x 2’ course but the second day of the accredited certificate course.” Alan]

Song book very good. Looking forward to using it and seeing results. Having done this part 2 before; felt confident I knew what I was talking about and learnt very little new – just reinforced.

Liked the songbook a lot. Good ideas for activities in the afternoon. Bit too much repetition first session.

Enjoyable. Interesting. Lots of activities and ideas, very good presentation from an excellent trainer.

Very informative, with many teaching ideas. Enjoyed the introduction of the electronic book.

Overall, clear and helpful. Ideas for activities useful. Would have liked a handout with key points.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this course. I have been thrown in at the deep end to teach THRASS in KS2 and it has been extremely difficult for me to get my head around it. However, I feel the presentation was excellent and has given me the confidence to try out the scheme of work as set out in the handbook. The new material (musical CD) is fun and really exciting.

Given me some understanding of the THRASS program but as I missed Day 1 feel I still have lots of gaps in my knowledge. New interactive book looks to be a great resource but feel too much time was dedicated to that rather than the basic program. Feel that the training jumped around a bit too much. I would have preferred more of a progressive program building up from the basics to enable me to get the bigger picture. Need to have more hands-on experience to further my knowledge.

A lot of time spent on THRASS assessment – how does this link in with National Assessment strategy. A lot of repetition of Day 1. Issue of regional variation not fully addressed. Compatibility with other schemes?

Very comprehensive once again showing the versatility of approach. New resources look promising. Will need to consider issues of ‘fidelity’ and whole school approach.

Informative. Reinforced aspects to help us remember technical information. Ready to use ideas with clear justifications. Lots of visual resources which can be used in a real life context.

Enjoyable and very informative. Particularly liked the electronic book. Lots of useful teaching ideas.
