GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS ONE-DAY FOUNDATION,
SURREY, JAN 29, 2007

Portable Document Format

Excellent. Very thorough. Explained the principles of the system really well. Materials beautifully produced. Illuminating. It reinforces the school’s belief that THRASS is invaluable in addressing children’s literacy difficulties.

Very motivating session. Good explanations at a conceptual level. Very clear style of presenting. Resources look very helpful to be able to pick up and try straight away! Thanks.

Valuable. Having used THRASS in school hearing the nuts and bolts confirms that it is a brilliant tool.

Excellent day. Really clear explanations. Useful to hear the 10 stages of THRASS – excellent delivery.

The presentation was lively and clear, which made it easy to follow and kept one’s attention. It was very nice to feel that everybody was included – those with knowledge already and those who know very little about basic literacy skills. Thank you for a most enjoyable day.

Well delivered to a very mixed audience of mixed level of familiarity with both the THRASS system and the underlying theories. Excellent for making the distinctions between graphemes and phonemes – especially digraphs.

Extremely well presented. Clear and informative. Extremely interesting, possibly p.m. session because a little harder most of us were lacking concentration by then! Lovely, enthusiastic manner – infectious and articulate. Very pleased to have attended.

Interesting course. Helpful to get lots of practical ideas of how to implement it. Useful resources. I particularly liked the idea of praising the children when they found an unusual word which wasn’t listed and keeping a list in a dictionary.

Thank you Hilary for a second opportunity to hear your Day 1 THRASS talk. I am sure that we will make the most of the information you have given us. Excellent presentation, accessible to all and interesting to all at whatever level of THRASS they already had.

Even better the second time! The practical emphasis was both informative and enjoyable.

A good, informative training day. Excellent resources available.

Very interesting, relevant and well presented. The tutor had to share a lot of information in a day, so it was quite intense, but excellent.

Very useful. I now know how to use both sides of the THRASS chart! Excellent delivery.

Overall, very well presented and interesting course. My understanding of how the THRASS works and how it can be implemented is much clearer. Good range of activities and ideas available to teach THRASS, together with Phoneme Machine demonstration. Would have liked to see some sample videos of THRASS being taught to a wide range of students, e.g. Key Stage 1, and to see how students respond. Course leader was able to give some good suggestions of how THRASS could be used with the older students. Excellent variety of materials given to help make course interactive and interesting.

Very informative. Explained a number of questions which have been raised as a result of already having been teaching THRASS. A good range of activities, delivered in a very pleasant manner.

A very good and helpful course. I can now understand how to use the THRASS chart to help the children. I really struggled before but now it is clear and I will be more confident when using it.

Excellent delivery, fun and informative. Clearly made links between how THRASS links to national curriculum. An enjoyable day of training.

Most useful and I have learned such a lot. I feel much more confident in using the THRASS chart.

Very beneficial especially having only recently been introduced to THRASS. This will be helpful when working with the pupils both in groups and on an individual basis. The training will also help my child.

Very useful for pre-readers and those who struggle with spelling. I think it may be confusing to use graph, digraph etc. Very helpful to know how to use the charts and the background to it!

Very interesting course. Enjoyed the day.

I found the course very interesting.

Very informative. I’m sure with practice it will become second nature. I had no idea what THRASS was until today, but everything is now clear and I look forward to using it with the students.

Useful. Would be good to know more about identifying where a class should begin with THRASS if they already have some phonologic/grapheme awareness but are not confident enough. I’m thinking of KS3.

Interesting day. Clearly delivered. I have not used THRASS before and now have a clearer idea.

Very well presented. Clear, attractive, plentiful materials. Very good mix of styles in presentation – kept us listening. Excellent way of looking at and categorising vocabulary and spelling. Aspects would be useful in KS4, particularly if well used lower down the school and adapted for older children.

Excellent day. Very dynamic presentation. Well explained with good examples. Relevant to the year that I assist in. I now feel confident in how to introduce THRASS and definitely can see the benefit.

Well presented – enthusiastic. Well rounded concept and technique definitely useful for knowledge and understanding of spelling/reading. Would have been useful for specific strategies to use with students in KS4 who have basic reading knowledge but specific dyslexic difficulties – although the foundation knowledge learned today will be good basis for working on these skills with these students.

Good demonstration of course material, equipment. Good pace. It would have been useful to have more examples of how to analyse and correct spellings using the chart and then followed up with exercises.

Very informative, interesting and well presented. Hilary had a friendly, approachable manner which put everyone at ease. It would have been useful to have an outline of the proceedings before the start.

Outline at the start would have been helpful. Very clear explanation of the system. Fewer anecdotes!

A good introduction to the system if you are new to THRASS and especially teaching reading and spelling. Very lively presentation and lots of excellent examples of how it can be made more ‘fun’ in the classroom. I would have liked more age appropriate examples, as the majority are KS3/KS4.

A good introduction to THRASS if entirely new to it. A long day.

Very good but too much for one day. Would be better in two half-day sessions with time to try out.

Thoroughly enjoyed the course (part 1). Look forward to attending part 2 (some day soon hopefully). I know this is going to be most useful in therapy and in the classroom!

Good information. Well presented.

A useful course to help us all work in a consistent way across the curriculum both within literacy strategy and therapy. Practical ideas and access to some functional resources, especially the computer programme ‘The Phoneme Machine’.

Content and resources – fantastic! A lot to take in over the course of one day.
