Wow! A really informative, but so very useful course. THRASS really makes sense to me now – I’d been struggling to piece it all together for it to be accessible for my reception class, and now have lots of ideas to inspire future teaching and learning! A very good course. Having begun to use the scheme, it clarified many things. The timetable was adhered to, and the plan of each stage fulfilled.

The course has really helped me to understand how the programme works and the kinds of activities I should do in my classroom to implement it. A good refresher course, lively and enthusiastic delivery enabled me to become well informed. I do feel confident that I am able to go back and cascade to KS2 how to implement THRASS to fit our needs. I would be very interested in visiting a good/outstanding school (primary) that delivers THRASS across the whole school that has high level 3’s in KS1 to high level 5’s in KS2.

Hilary thoroughly covered the many aspects of the course. A lot of concentration was required as it does seem to be quite a complex and different phonic programme. Supportive materials will all help when implementing. I already use a lot of the techniques and articulation already.  

The course had good pace and was well resourced, to enable us to have a go at the activities. Day 1 helped to focus my thoughts on the parts of THRASS I have been teaching to F1/F2 children last term. I still feel the need for more child friendly resources for my 4 year olds who have no sound recognition, grapheme recognition and need a lot of speaking and listening experience – each day! Day 2 helped me to see the whole picture and how this will improve our children’s spelling and decoding skills.

A fantastic course with so many ideas of activities to do with the children – very informative and useful. Great ideas of resources to use and great explanations of spellings and how to split words up!

A very useful couple of days, great to have the essential Guide to refer to and to use with staff training.
