GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS TWO-DAY CERTIFICATE,
ESSEX, JAN 16-17, 2007

Portable Document Format

Excellent! I wish every teacher in my school could have been here. This training should be part of every teacher’s initial training.

Wow! What a brilliant course! I am going back to my school a much more informed teacher. You have answered so many questions which I have needed answering and haven’t known who to ask. My class will really benefit from a much more confident teacher when it comes to phonics. Thank you so much.

I thought the course was extremely informative and well presented. A wonderful course.

Extremely useful, well presented and interactive. It has been a very good ‘phonics’ refresher course. Lots of the resources, games, activities and good practice will be shared with our schools. Thank you for the resources. The Phoneme Machine is a super resource. Will recommend to others.

Very useful two days. Good to brush up on synthetic/analytic phonics etc. Lots of games/ideas at each stage of teachers. Loved the Phoneme Machine – will be using this in my schools. Also, love the raps – have used these as a teacher with great success and will continue to recommend to teachers as a good way of ensuring consistency across schools. Thank you very much.

Extremely useful and enjoyable course. Will find it fantastic as teaching small literacy groups at secondary school. Fantastic tools to use. Thank you Hilary.

Extremely useful with regards to phonic knowledge. Lots of practical activities. Not sure how this fits in with new DFES framework with regards to expectations for end of Year R. Thank you for all the materials. Shall certainly share with schools.

This has been really useful in terms of content – (presentation also lively and of high quality). It has been particularly useful for me, not only for my work in schools, but also in terms of delivery of central training in phonics, in the light of the Rose Review. Thank you for the plethora of resources.

Interesting and thought provoking.

This has provided a lot of food for thought. We are often asked about THRASS and I now feel I could discuss this confidently with a school. Thank you for presenting so well too!

Interesting, informative and lively.

This gave me a really helpful overview of phonics progression across the age-phase and a clear vision of core skills to develop.

A lot of ideas on how to teach THRASS. A lot more clear about THRASS.

Clear structure. Lots of practical ideas for use in the classroom. Lots of free resources provided. THRASS covered in detail. User-friendly style provided by Hilary.

Fantastic! A well paced and informative session that unlocks the English language for everyone. I hope to get the rest of our school involved. Hilary you have done a great job.

Lots to think about. Enjoyed the course. Explained really well and resources are great to take back and try out with the children.

A thorough course which covered many areas. I feel confident enough now to deliver this to my lower KS2 literacy set.

Good introduction to using THRASS. Welcome the Phoneme Machine on the interactive whiteboard!

Very interesting. Enjoyable and very useful. Excellent presentation.

Very well produced resources which will be useful. Very positive and enthusiastic course leader.

Well delivered knowledgeable instructor. Good attempt at interacting with “students”.

I knew a bit about THRASS, but now feel a lot more confident about how to implement it with my children. Would appreciate it if you could think about how to implement it as in mixed age group after first year! Liked interactive nature of the course and clear explanations. Love the grouping of the graphemes on the chart. Found acronyms a bit confusing though.

Very efficient though often confusing and complicated; there didn’t seem to be a clear structure, despite there being a programme! I will certainly use the strategies and resources with my pupils.

Very informative, logical, sequential. Well presented. Excellent presenter – friendly, knowledgeable. Hooray for the return to sensible strategies in teaching reading!

Excellent course, well organised.

Excellent two days. Interesting, relevant and very well taught.

Very useful.

The course answered questions I had regarding spelling choices. I would have liked more practical activities during the sessions.

A lot of practical tips given on activities to do. Made sense of the English language, and accents within it. Not kinaesthetic enough for us as adults.

Enjoyable, interesting and informative. It would be useful to perhaps get up and practise using the THRASS methods during the course. Probably not possible in two days

Thoroughly enjoyed this course – thank you! Very excited about implementing it in our school. Very clearly delivered – well done! I love the logical nature of the programme and I can really see it working in our school. I’ve learnt a lot.

Lots to get through! A little too much time spent on some sections. Overwhelmed by all the information. Some very nice and practical ideas to start children off with the pictures and keywords.

Useful. Lots of ideas for using THRASS. Useful to have resources that can be taken away. Good use of practical activities. Use more of chart – most examples were given on consonant line!

A good insight into the key features of the THRASS program. Good resources to take away. Use more of the chart instead of just C1 can become repetitive.

Very good – entertaining – thorough. Well taught – I enjoyed my two days.

Brilliant course, great resources. Really enjoyable.

I enjoyed learning new and interesting ways to teach phonics. Thank you for the exciting presentation.

Only one word, ‘Brilliant’ two days.
