GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS TWO-DAY CERTIFICATE,
ESSEX, JAN 26-27, 2006

Portable Document Format

A fantastic two days! I just wish I’d done this earlier in my career. Can’t wait to get back into school and do it. This will bring together all that we have already started in school. Thankyou.

A really lively and interesting two days. I have learnt so much about the English language. Why wasn’t I taught this twenty-five years ago in training? Thankyou.

Wow! Really enjoyable two days! I have learnt so much and can’t wait to try this out with staff and children. Thank you very much. I can really move learning and teaching forwards.

I found the entire course very informative. Not only have I learnt how to deliver THRASS in my classroom but I have expanded my knowledge of the English language. The delivery was of a good pace, clear and entertaining. I would strongly recommend the course. I hope there are not spelling mistakes in my evaluation, they didn’t use THRASS when I was at school!

Really inspiring and informative. I really want to get back to school to try it all with the children. The course also cleared up a three-year mystery for me about phonemes and graphemes. Hilary is clearly a gifted teacher and her delivery really helped with my understanding.

A great insight into the beginning of THRASS. A starting point to hopefully encourage members of our teaching staff to begin using the fundamentals. Very well presented with excellent resources.

Very interesting and informative. Presentation was in-depth but fun. Now for me to sell to school.

A lot to take in! A lively presentation which was enthusiastic and clear. Thankyou.

Very informative. Lots of good information. Would have been nice to have time for more questions.

Really enjoyable, useful and interesting. I am enthused now to start teaching the programme at school. Maybe too much time spent on THRASS–IT.

Well organised and informative. Lovely to be able to take back resources, thankyou. Would have been nice to somehow been able to get up and try computer resources, etc.

Second day – rather confusing when referring to the phonetic (international) alphabet. Good content.

Two really enjoyable and absorbing days. A good pace and atmosphere. Hilary kept everyone interested. We had already decided to try working with THRASS and now feel keen to get started.

Very motivating and will be a great basis for our whole school literacy approach. Thanks.

Very useful. Very clear links to graphemes, phonemes.

This has taught me many new things about the speaking, reading and writing of English.

This has changed the way I look at teaching, reading and spelling. Thank you for making the two days interesting and enjoyable. I can’t wait to get started!

Very lively presentation. Good variety of teaching styles and opportunities for learning. The materials look great and will prove very useful. Look forward to purchasing CDs. A very worthwhile course.

Good delivery – nice balance between content and questions –clear instruction and repetition. Felt that we were building on own skills quite well. Resources – good – looking forward to using the ‘phoneme machine’ and ’15 minute lessons’ when they come out.

Very useful. A bit of a crowded schedule – although it is important to address issues that come up from participants. Might be better to include these at the end if it otherwise compromises the content.

A lot to take in but useful. I’m sure I’ll be able to use information more when I start to teach it.

Well-presented, very useful. Nice to be able to take some resources back to school to explain THRASS.

Enjoyed the course, very informative and enabled me to use the THRASS chart and have in my classroom! Although I felt the second day’s afternoon was slightly too in-depth for me!

The course was very informative and put THRASS into perspective. Hilary delivered the course with such passion you just had to get involved.

Very useful two days. Well delivered and broke down each section into understandable parts. Feel able and comfortable in delivering THRASS to my children and also giving feedback to staff. Very enjoyable.

A fantastic couple of days and feel ready to tackle this in the classroom. I got a little lost when discussing the finer points of the International Phonetic Alphabet, but am confident I can catch up.

I have increased my knowledge of the English language. Some useful ideas for teaching the younger children in the Foundation stage.

Really useful day 1. Lots of practical ideas and gave me confidence to get started with the children. Thought Day 2 was good although the afternoon session was rushed too much for me to get the most from it – I thought this session would have been really valuable to my assessment. Thanks.

Great. Informative. Fantastic. 10 out of 10. Thank you very much!

Very useful – we have most of the resources but didn’t know what to do. Now have plenty of strategies, games, etc. and have much more of an idea about how to progress through the stages.

A very useful course and enjoyed the visual support. It just needs to be consistent taking it back to school and making sure that every year group use it correctly. Thankyou.

I feel much more confident to now go back to school and teach THRASS to my Reception class. We were given lots of ideas to use the THRASS resources. Improvement – stick to agreed finish time! Can we have the THRASS picture cards!

I found THRASS very enjoyable, which helps children learn through fun. It also allows their “thinking skills” to develop, leading to independency.

Informative, helpful, packed, great.

Our school has spent a lot of money on THRASS resources but we were guessing for a while about how to share and let the children access it. Six members of our staff came and now we all have ideas, games and resources to use. Would love to have a full list of possible games but realise this is almost endless! Thanks very much – I’ve got a much clearer baseline position now.

I already use THRASS in my school but got to a point where I didn’t know where to take it. This course has given me a clear understanding and knowledge of THRASS which I can now use in my teaching. The resources given were useful and will certainly be used daily. | can see now how THRASS can develop children in reading, writing, spelling. Overall the course was fantastic, useful and interesting. A huge thankyou.
