GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS ACCREDITED CERTIFICATE,
GABORONE, BOTS, JAN 20-21, 2006

Portable Document Format

I found the course absolutely exhilarating. It has opened many more options to the teaching of Reading and Spelling. I feel I don’t live in the “Dark Age” any more! Thank you so much!

Being new to Reception class teaching, teaching the literacy and language skills was my key concern, as Reception really sets out and lays the foundation for school life. I am so excited to have had the opportunity to train to teach the THRASS programme and to work in an already established THRASS system at Broadhurst. I love the interactive approach and the huge possibilities for teachers to use their own creativity and cultural backgrounds within the programme. Language really has come alive for me again during the past two days! Many thanks!

An absolutely interesting way of teaching literacy! I think it is going to change spelling, reading and handwriting in a positive way. It is a lot to take in over a two day course, but I think once I start using it in the class it is going to fall into place. I am excited to use it in my class. Thank you for an excellent course that was well run and very organised!

Exciting! Initially a little mind-boggling after a very busy week! Am sure that by using THRASS in the classroom, I will soon be confident and as excited about the programme as the rest of the Broadhurst staff. Excellent presentation – very lively!

As a teacher using this system, the course was really useful. I can now see where I am going and have a better idea of how to help my pupils. I am looking forward to putting my knowledge into practise.

Very interesting and invaluable. It is a bit intimidating at first, but all comes together at the end. Puts a new perspective on writing, reading and spelling. I have a new confidence for entering the classroom and doing THRASS with the learners.

A comprehensive and well-presented workshop on how to use THRASS. An exciting approach to the teaching of language. I now feel able to go out and put what we have learnt into practise.

THRASS helps to reinforce the major points to be remembered when spelling a word. After attending the course I feel confident to spell difficult words correctly in front of my students. It also helps to organise students learning by following the guide in the THRASS handbooks. I have really benefited from the course.

A very informative course. Having taught THRASS for one year, there were some aspects that I did not fully understand – i.e. the assessment section - and have struggled to use successfully within my classroom. The course has really made me more aware of its usage. Thank you, Laola, for the eye-opener to THRASS.

I can see the value of THRASS within a teaching situation. I’m looking forward to incorporating it in my classroom and teaching English in the whole.

I found the THRASS course very informative and interesting. It has opened my mind to a whole new concept of teaching Phonics, which I believe is very interesting and enjoyable to both the teacher and pupil. The materials available for teaching THRASS are also very detailed and will help the teachers to go a long way.

THRASS, as a means of teaching phonics and language, is a super idea, and I gained a lot of new ideas to use in my classroom. This is a unique way of teaching spelling and children get the idea very quickly and pick up the raps without too much repetition. They are eager to learn when doing THRASS, which makes teaching spelling / phonics fun.

This THRASS course has been a whole new learning curve for me as a teacher and a parent, who has a learning-spelling challenged child. It all makes sense now. I can’t wait to use it in my classroom and at home. I would love to see how it works and the improvement that it will make, not only in reading age levels, but in personal confidence areas of the children. Thank you for an enriching, challenging course! I’ve been THRASSED!

THRASS is a gift, (WONDERFUL GIFT) to all the children in Africa. Training them to write correctly, guiding them to the correct way to pronounce and spell the words. Even older people could correct themselves by attending courses/workshops like this. I have to say thank you for the opportunity to learn a lot about THRASS.

We (I) found THRASS not only useful to the students, but to the teachers. It cleared my doubts about phonetics and developed my confidence in teaching English, especially Spelling. Thanks to THRASS. It’s the biggest gift to English.

A fantastic course which is not only useful in Reading, but in Spelling and Writing. This course is going to make a difference in my teaching and my pupils’ learning. My teaching has been made very easy and I understand my children’s’ learning is going to be easy too and they are going to enjoy it.

The course has been a refresher course, as most of the things learnt at college were left along the way – e.g. the way phonics is taught. At the same time, I’m happy to note that there are a variety of games or methods highlighted during this programme. Teachers and the learners will in turn achieve good results. We wish this programme could be extended so we can learn more. With great thanks. Please continue helping in this way to better education.

I have enjoyed the THRASS course. I hope it will help me a lot in my teaching career. It has given me new ways of attacking a lesson, which I believe, children will enjoy and learning will be easy and fun to them.

I found the THRASS course mind opening and very exciting in that I learnt something which I wish I could have learnt before and would have really helped me as a person and in my work as a teacher. I can’t wait to start teaching THRASS in the classroom and helping my own children. I learnt a lot in this course and would be happy to go through any other THRASS workshops in future.

The course was phenomenal. It offered ma a chance to revisit my English language skills, work on these, correct these, so as to enable me to impart the correct language skills to children. I will certainly embark on THRASS on Monday morning and I am geared to make it a success. Come and visit my classroom in a month’s time!

The lesson was interesting. It will really improve my English speaking as well as spelling, spreading it to the children at school. THRASS has really helped me a lot. I wish I could attend another course so that I could gain as much as possible.

Undergoing the two day THRASS course has transformed my professional level. I found it so interesting and I promise to extend this knowledge to develop young ones of all levels.

This course, which was very organised and well presented, has clearly distinguished for me, the difference between THRASS and other methods. Having used other methods, THRASS has taught me to teach Reading, Writing and Spelling all at once. It has taught me why a child can read and battle with Spelling. Thank you to THRASS. I made the best decision to introduce THRASS in my professional life.

A course so enormous in scope, yet so easily digestible, giving the learner an unbelievable speed in assimilation of so much knowledge in such a short time. Brilliant.
