GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS TWO-DAY CERTIFICATE,
BIRMINGHAM, JAN 5-6, 2006

Portable Document Format

I have had a really interesting and insightful two days! The strategies used and demonstrated for reading and spelling made so much sense and I have had a big realisation that teaching reading and spelling within schools needs to change. The delivery of the course was also interesting, clear and exciting, which used lots of activities. Thank you so much. I have really learned a lot over the past two days and am looking forward to using ideas in the classroom.

This has been an intense, yet very interesting course. It has certainly helped increase, clarify and develop my subject knowledge in this area and I’m sure will profoundly influence my teaching of phonics and spelling in the future. My thanks to Alan, the speaker, for a useful few days.

Very enlightening, gave me understanding of why children make the incorrect spelling choices. What I have learnt and the resources I have been given will help greatly the children that I work with.

A very informative and inspiring course. It will definitely have a huge impact on the methods I currently use for spellings, handwriting and phonics. Course delivery was imaginative and clear. I really feel that my teacher subject knowledge of phonics has improved significantly.

Very helpful and informative. Useful ideas and new approaches and some really good practical advice.

I have found this course most helpful. Have learnt a lot from what I have seen today. The course will benefit myself and the children I will be teaching. You gave a fab presentation.

I thought it would be brilliant and I wasn’t disappointed – even better than anticipated. I feel inspired to return to school – confess all my mistakes to the children and then proceed to get them even more enthusiastic about spelling (believe me, they are already enthusiastic!) and, more importantly, see them make rapid progress in understanding and accuracy – confidence and self-esteem.

Excellent course. Very well delivered giving me a full understanding of THRASS. Enthusiastic delivery which made it extremely enjoyable. I am looking forward to implementing it in our school and encouraging our Primary feeder schools to participate.

A wonderful presentation – the two days flew by. Thank you for “wiping out” 30 years of inappropriate phonics teaching! I’m keen that the school moves forward with this programme. Can’t wait to go back to school and start working with my secondary SEN pupils.

An excellent course. Very well presented with lots of information. It was interesting with excellent resources also. I feel that I have learnt lots and look forward to trying it out. Thankyou very much.

The course made complete sense and made me understand why children use incorrect letters or spellings, e.g. mEt, instead of meet. I wish my children had learnt using this approach.

A new way of thinking! My poor 4-year-old won’t know what’s hit him. A lot to take in during two days.

A very inspiring and detailed course. Very well presented and good resources. I’m impressed by the amount of free resources/information available on the Internet.

Interesting and informative course. Alan was very entertaining and knowledgeable and there were lots of useful resources. Lots to think about!

Very interesting approach which will be useful to implement with my special needs teaching. Not sure how the school is going to use as a whole yet. I like the multi-sensory approach.

I think this is excellent. Looking forward to beginning it in school. It would have more impact if the infant school used it, instead of Jolly Phonics.

A thoroughly enjoyable and informative course. Excellent pace. THRASS is the way forward. Thanks.
Really enlightening! Very intense, covering a huge amount. I shall definitely be using this at home with my children and hopefully will be using it in school. Brilliant!

Carmel and Tracey were right – THRASS is an inspirational, yet common sense approach to teaching English that I hope we can adopt fruitfully at Colmore. You are an excellent presenter. Please keep us informed of developments. Thankyou.

This was a very useful and informative course. It has certainly taught me a few things about phonics. I am looking forward to trying these methods out in my own classroom. The course information was put across in a very entertaining way. Thank you very much.

A very helpful and informative course which will certainly change the way I teach my class and child spellings. The course delivery was very clear and delivered at a suitable pace. Thankyou.

An informative and well-delivered course. The materials are excellent and provide the answer as to why we have a generation of phonetically deprived people, with another one following if ‘government experts’ do not open their eyes. The multi-sensory aspect of the materials and the processes of analysis put in place will ensure entitlement for all children.

Fantastic course made very exciting and interesting. I hope we will have THRASS implemented in school. I have really enjoyed the course and hope to do an advanced course in the future.

Fantastic course superbly delivered! I shall be recommending it to other schools. I hope that we are able to implement THRASS full, as I am positive it will improve performance of all children. I really wish I had learnt this when I did my teacher training.

Very stimulating. It was delivered in an energetic and riveting manner. I’ve already discussed ways of learning spellings with my children at home and am looking forward to using THRASS in school.

Excellent course – very keen to start ASAP. We have learned much about phonics teaching (the good and bad!) in our schools and I now feel more empowered to challenge current teaching methods

Extremely informative and made a lot of sense. Lots of the examples related closely to children I currently teach. I now feel inspired to start using THRASS and will definitely share what I’ve learnt with colleagues at other schools who only us Jolly Phonics. Interesting and engaging.

I thawt it woz grait. I have lirnt wi I have bean so inadeeqwat at spelling and reyding at last! It is comern senss and wercs – at last I can eksplayn haw ingerlish is rittern, thankz.

The THRASS course was very informative and will definitely be useful for the children I work with.

Excellent course. Alan’s delivery was enthusiastic and I am looking forward to going back to school and implementing THRASS. b/r/i/ll.

Wonderful presentation, organisation, stimulating, active. Pace appropriate considering range of prior learning in group. Not sure if sufficient skills to be able to teach THRASS yet but happy that on-line course, videos etc. will equip me. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Day 1 was a repeat of the day course we had already completed, but it was good to confirm what we have been doing is pretty close to the REAL THING! Day 2 – loads of ideas to take things a bit further, practical advice and a good look at new resources.

Great. Thanks. A lot to get my head round – but keen to now go and try it with my son at home first! I’ll have to practice on the web site before I go into the class!

A thought provoking approach to language and literacy development. Links theory to practice – helps to explain why many psychologists see a blockage in child’s literacy acquisition at the stages above ‘CVC-Level’ reading (including blends). I look forward to trialling this further.

Very good. Lot to cover but covered well. Nice to see that handwriting/letter formation is important. Glad to now have something to use as a (simple) baseline assessment grid. Would like to feed back in six months to see if it has made any difference to school/my teaching methods.

A really helpful and most user-friendly course. Lots of ideas to use and make teaching time more effective. Web site information gives confidence in moving forward.

Day 1 – a good refresher course following on from a 2-hour workshop attended a few months ago. Day 2 – useful and informative – good extension particularly from lower KS2 classes. My confidence at using and understanding terminology has increased. A lot of information. Sometimes difficult to fit it all in due to the demands from other areas of the curriculum. You made it sound so easy to deliver but it takes months of practice to be proficient. Thanks.

First class presentation. Very informative – very enjoyable – highly recommended.

Very interesting and inspirational. Completely different from any other method I have experienced. I hope the school will take this on board. Thankyou for keeping me interested for two days.

Very interesting. I look forward to trying it out back at school. There’s lots to remember, however. The handouts and TEACHING THRASS book will no doubt save me! Thank you very much for an enjoyable, interesting and thought-provoking training course.

Absolutely marvellous! Well presented – motivational trainer. I’m taking away a lot of ideas that I can use with adult students in the workplace. Thoroughly enjoyed the two-day event.

Fantastic course – I really enjoyed the two days. THRASS makes such sense – brilliantly presented. I am enthused – and will certainly be recommending the approach for children I work with in schools. Wouldn’t it be fab if this was compulsory in all schools!
