The
most, brilliant, exciting course I have ever been on. Alan was fantastic and the
material was amazing.
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome! Brilliant presentation. Teaching special needs
children will take on a new meaning.
Great
and so much energy and fun! It all makes so much more sense and has really
inspired me to go out there to make a difference - and have some fun.
Brilliant course. The presentation was outstanding.
The
truth will set you free. Very exciting. Someone put the light on.
What
an inspirational course. I am convinced that THRASS is the answer to our
Nation’s Literacy Crisis. I would love to attend another course – but it must
last a full week!
WOW!
Being a speech therapist I am delighted with the THRASS programme. I can
definitely see the benefits of using this method to teach literacy. I am looking
forward to encouraging the schools I work in to use THRASS. Thank you, Alan, for
a very dynamic and animated presentation.
Very
interesting and extremely well presented. Wonderful resources for teachers –
opened up a whole new world for me and my pupils.
A
very good, energetic presentation which included the audience frequently.
Exhausting but most enjoyable.
Very
interesting. Alan is a lively presenter who doesn’t allow you to doze off! Can’t
wait to get back to school to give it all a go.
Well
presented. I learnt a lot. Thanks for the wonderful experience.
Very
exciting! It just makes so much sense! I can’t wait to implement this
programme.
Brilliant! Very enlightening and I’m so excited to get back to class and start!
Phonics and teaching phonics now makes so much more sense.
A
wonderful enrichment course, well thought through with fantastic resources,
colourful and user friendly. KZN schools who have not got this THRASS programme
will benefit tremendously to up literacy in the province.
Intensive. Excellent integration of auditory, visual and kinesthetic - with
logic, sequential and spatial skills and whole language and whole brain! Will
definitely use with learners and my own children.
Illuminating! THRASS does give the whole picture and a perspective on the
problems we have experienced. It is also an excellent way to link up knowledge
in a progressive way that enhances the child’s competence and self-esteem. The
materials are also most useful (in a variety of ways) and can be developed upon
in creative and orginal ways by both learner and teacher.
Thoroughly enjoyed the course. Excellent presentation. Really looking forward to
implementing all I’ve learnt into my classroom.
Brilliant. Loved every minute of it. Will definitely be making use of it in the
future. Answered many questions about how to move forward.
I
really en joyed the course and know that it will benefit my teaching in the
classroom, as well as my own children. It was very well-organised and the
teaching aids are lovely.
Thoroughly enjoyed it. It is very informative and helpful into introducing
literacy to very young children. I enjoyed your sense of humour, Alan. Well done
and keep up your enthusiasm. It was well organised and carried out. Well done to
‘Magical Mike’ too!
Informative and fruitful. Alan was good and confident. I can happily recommend
the THRASS course to other teachers.
A
fantastic two days. I enjoyed the presentation and I’m excited about teaching
spelling (which is quite an achievement as this is not my strong point!).
An
eye-opening method of teaching reading. There was an information over-load but
one can use it almost immediately in the classroom. I need time to digest
everything before I would use it. I think it would be wrong to use bits and
pieces of the programme in isolation. It was an inspiring course.
A
mind-set change! But a worthwhile one!
Very
good presentation. Very information, eye opening! It is definitely the way to
go.
Fantastic. I am delighted to have finally made THRASS my own after all the
raving from local teachers. I am really looking forward to breathing new
enthusiasm into my staff so that we create a more effective introduction to this
programme for all our children. Thank you Alan and Mike for all your hard work
over the last two days – your enthusiasm and passion are inspirational!
A
brand new approach to phonetics. I cannot wait to start teaching this concept to
my class, especially the music comibined with learning.
A
really great course. I was given a great insight into THRASS. We already use the
program at our school but I was taught by the staff. I now have a much clearer
understanding.
A
dynamic presentation on the area of phonics and recognition. THRASS is
denfintely a high quality phonics programme that could certainly make reading
easier.
Very
informative. Lots of practical demonstrations given to help us all understand.
Has put fun back into teaching reading, writing and phonics.
I
agreed about phonemes becoming introduced later in our learning. I feel THRASS
is a more fun and active way of teaching the alphabet.
Wonderful, enthusiastic presentation. Witty and interactive! Perhaps too much
information for two days and less opportunity for debate/rhetoric. Course
material very user friendly.
Amazing resources. I enjoyed the interactivity. Well presented.
Lovely course – finally a literacy programme that makes sense! Nice refresher
for concepts learned in my university training that seemed to not be used in
schools here in KZN. Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm with us, we really
needed it!
Thoroughly worthwhile and the THRASS program makes total sense.
Very
much informative. I am empowered and capacitated to assist educators from
Pinetown District, even my own children at home and nearby schools. Well
presented.
Very
worthwhile. I learnt a great deal and have a better understanding of what my
present class learnt last year.
A
highly enjoyable and informative course. Your really evoke a new enthusiasm for
THRASS in the classroom. I can’t wait to take it back to my Gr R classroom and
start THRASSING IT OUT!
I
began to understand how to teach spelling in English. I was pleased with the
multisensory method used to cater for learners with special educational needs.
A lot
to take in but a fabulous course.
Excellent presentation. The workshop was very informative and has helped me see
things from a different perspective. Thank you, Alan, for sharing your knowledge
with us.
Very
well presented. Most enjoyable. Have learnt a lot but still have a long way to
go.
Very
alive. Well presented and very good interaction. I learnt a lot and hope to use
some of the ideas in my class. All the very best for the future!
Very
inspiring! Have been convinced. It is the way to go!
Very
enthusiastic presentation, enlightening and plenty of food for thought. A
wonderful course.
Informative. Far too much within two days. Enjoyable. I wonder how many teachers
attending actually have learnt the skills that will make their THRASS teaching
successful.
Very
informative and interesting. Alan explained the material creating a good
understanding. It was interactive and a great deal of fun!
Excellent presentation. Humorous, witty. A large amount of information conveyed.
Great interaction. A refreshing learning experience.
A
dynamic course. South African children will be at an advantage if they are
taught THRASS. I thoroughly enjoyed the course.
Very
well presented. A useful, practical course, well worth attending. It would have
perhaps helped had we had some previous knowledge of the basics of THRASS before
we came, this may have given the presenter more time to do extra practical
exercises/ideas. Thank you for developing THRASS. This will greatly help
children in the future. Thank you for coming to South Africa.
Worthwhile, enlightening, outstanding. Caused me to make a paradigm shift. The
workshop has made me excited about doing things different. Having introduced an
extra half hour a day for reading at our school, this workshop came at the right
time!
I’m
converted – wow! Can’t wait to help by children learn to read, write and spell
with such a fabulous building method. Thank you for the opportunity to change
and grow. I am looking forward to helping the children develop their reading
skills.
Excellent. As an educator that has taught across the board I see the errors
learners have made because of the ‘old fashioned’ phonic approach that
emphasises that each letter has only one sound.
Greatly appreciated. Pray that I can make a difference every minute with my
learners - and in the not too distant future! Luckily I am an avid reader and I
managed to pull through!
Very
interesting and certainly throught provoking. Need to get my mind around using
this at Gr 5 with kids that have been in the system since Gr 2. Sight word
integration still a bit vague, expecially those which fall in the “Catch All”
group. Enjoyable. Great energy.
An
outstanding and informative eye-opener! Alan, you were entertaining and I cannot
believe how much I didn’t know about spelling. Great for visual learners. I
cannot wait to get back to the classroom…. and to my dyslexic child! I look
forwared to a follow-up.
Very
good. I really enjoyed the course on THRASS.
I
loved the course – wish it could have been three days! Too much to really take
in properly in two days – that was frustrating. A follow up course would be
great. Interesting. Time flew by. Very exciting and motivating. Wonderful being
on the receiving end of great teaching.
A
journey of discovery of a real world of words, sounds, letters and reading.
SING-A-LONG is a fantastic and dynamic method of teaching phonics, reading,
singing and drama. Happy and proud to see our African children on DVD. Wow! Well
done.
Excellent presentation and program. A lot of information to process. We only
teach English as a second language and our learners can definitely benefit from
this program.
Very
informative and dynamically presented. This method of teaching reading and
spelling is sure to benefit learners, especially the integration with regard to
visual, auditory and spatial skills used by children. Moreover, it was great,
great fun.
Excellent. As a mother I am quite excited to start introducing this to my child.
Your internet and email follow-up tips are excellent. Brilliant for second
language children, which is a large number in our school. Have entered our
school into the Absa TalkTogether initiative and hope it will happen.
A
very informative course which I have wanted to attend for some time. The concept
makes such sense and this is backed up by excellent ideas for implementation. I
particularly like the music/action approach for schools, as this allows for
implementation in poorer communities and also is of assistance to learners with
learning problems. It was wonderful to meet Alan – a person who is obviously
following his passion and dream – and making a difference in many countries.
Fantastic. Some lively teaching that reminds us that learning is fun!
