GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS ACCREDITED CERTIFICATE,
KZN, SOUTH AFRICA, FEB 8-9, 2008

Portable Document Format

Very informative and I am very pleased to have received training in a course which I believe will soon be implemented in every school. It has definitely changed my view on teaching phonics as I see it as a program that extends and allows learners to reach their full potential, rather than inhibit. THRASS is definitely the way forward in South-Africa and world wide.

Very interesting and challenging. The presenter Laola was excellent, really bubbly, dynamic and well informed and definitely well organised. The interactive Smart Board and software to be used with the THRASS program is truly out of this world. A big thank you to Laola and to ABSA for affording us the opportunity to be trained in this program as well as sponsoring our school! Really appreciate it!

Thank you Laola for the informative and interactive two day workshop! This will be very beneficial for improving the skills of our students.

Laola was excellent, well prepared, dynamic and knowledgeable. I am looking forward to trying out my first lesson. It was a lot of information to take in. However, I am sure once I start implementing, it will unfold into place. Thank you for this opportunity THRASS and ABSA.

A very informative and insightful presentation! Laola was an excellent, dynamic presenter and she was well prepared. I am looking forward to implementing THRASS. Thank you THRASS and ABSA.

Very interactive and informative. I am looking forward putting everything to practice. It was very rich and though provoking. I enjoyed being part of this training project.

A well presented and meaningful workshop of how the linguistic system should be implemented in English. I was able to grasp and apply concepts with relative ease after a while. I am convinced that this will have a positive spin off in teaching of English in our schools and will become a great tool for the teacher in the classroom, many thanks to ABSA and Laola for doing a splendid job.

This training program was most informative, interesting and lively, energetic with an enthusiastic presentation by Laola that kept us on our toes and stimulating our grey matters. The materials presented to us during the training program will certainly be put to good use. We were challenged to participate at each level in a manner which will be helpful when we implement THRASS in our classroom. A big thank you for your tremendous effort and patience and the wonderful way you handled the questions. Laola, God Bless and all the best.

Laola’s presentation has been absolutely superb! We have indeed been privileged to participate in this course, we have been brought up to speed by an expert in a short period of two days and yet feel confident enough to implement the program immediately. I believe THRASS presents us with opportunity to uplift the literacy skills of all our learners so that they can become empowered to face a highly competitive world with confidence in themselves. Thank you THRASS. Thank you ABSA. Thank you UKZN. Thank you Laola for you passionate engagement with the methodology.

Fantastic, I really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to introducing it to our learners. I would also like to thank Laola for the wonderful presentation and not forgetting ABSA for giving us this opportunity.

An excellent English program presentation! I thoroughly enjoyed the two days which was intensive and thoroughly enjoyable. A clear step by step process of how THRASS works provided me with the enthusiasm and enrichment of the knowledge and skills that are needed to implement such a wonderful literacy program. This new option of teaching THRASS is certainly something I look forward to optimistically.

I came in with an open mind and I am so glad I did! I am leaving with an extended amount of new knowledge and I am excited to begin putting it all into practice. THRASS has really opened my eyes in a perspective of anything is possible!

I am so excited about THRASS! I think it is absolutely brilliant! The whole concept behind THRASS makes perfect sense and I think children will benefit largely from it. A great presentation.

It is different but very interesting and fun. A well prepared presentation!

Extremely interesting, educational and relevant. Laola kept us interested and engaged. She was also audible, clear and to the point. The concepts and practice will be challenging and stimulating. It is definitely refreshing and a sensible program. I look forward to using and teaching it.

Thank you very much for sharing this knowledge with us. I am pleased that I learnt so much in these two days that lightens my nervousness about teaching in my first year, next year. I am pleased or I should rather say relieved that I had the opportunity to undergo this THRASS program before I taught learners that there are twenty one consonants and only five vowels in the alphabet. Thanks for bringing this to South-Africa. I hope and pray that all teachers teach by using THRASS.

A wonderful enlightening course. It has certainly shaken up our prior knowledge. It is a definite advantage for us as well as for our future learners that will help them with the skills of reading, writing and spelling. I look forward to practicing this methodology.

Extremely informative. Introduced a new methodology of teaching. Although the content challenges some of my previous experiences within a school environment, the convincing deliverance of the THRASS program has allowed me to re-evaluate those experiences. THRASS shows definite potential in aiding all learners in a classroom situation and therefore should form an important role in classroom teaching. On a whole I really enjoyed attending the two day course.

The whole presentation was fantastic. With all the changes that we are going through in our education, I think THRASS is the only program that puts more emphasis on teaching handwriting, reading and spelling skills. Our kids have a big problem when it comes to pronunciation and spelling. My wish is if the government can look at it and subsidise public schools that will make a tremendous difference in our teaching and learning at schools. I would like to give a big thank you for this golden opportunity they gave us.

An innovative and interesting approach to teaching these valued skills! I have found the presentation to be eye opening and challenging. It is a deviation from the usual methodology and I am excited at the potential it could have for our second language learners.

Very impressed with the program and can really see the benefits and merits thereby. I however like to become more involved with the actual implementation thereby truly evaluate effectively! Really felt that I needed more time to actually get the grips of the program. More activities would have been appreciated. On the whole I am quit excited and want to advocate the use of this program with some of the schools I work with.

Extremely educational and fascinating. I have learnt a lot in these two days. I look forward to using my new THRASS skills in the classroom. I enjoyed the course and it was done so well, Laola made it very enjoyable! My attention was captured from start to end.

Really enjoyable. It was great learning a different angle to teach reading in the classroom. I wish we could have gone into more depth and learnt more ways and examples of teaching!

Laola is a dynamic presenter with a very approachable, friendly disposition. This made the course enjoyable and I felt free to participate. There was clarity in her presentation and she handled all questions very efficiently. She is obviously highly knowledgeable in her field. I do feel somewhat apprehensive about the implementation of THRASS. We will take it one step at a time!

Very interesting and useful. This whole THRASS system is fascinating and very educationally valuable. I can’t wait to use it in the classroom.

Very beneficial and valuable to my education. It has broadened my view on teaching, reading and writing in the early years. Education should be constantly evolving and progressive. THRASS is definitely the way forward.

Very helpful in increasing our knowledge. It challenges our old ways of thinking and old methods that have been taught and used. The materials received are very helpful in getting us started. Laola was very energetic and made this course fun and made everyone wanting to learn and participate. The colours on the charts are well chosen and make it easier for the children.

Most interesting as I have never done phonics before. Don’t feel confident enough to teach using this approach, but enough to encourage teachers who are using it. I would like to have seen teachers using it. Thank you for a most enthusiastic presentation.

A dynamic presentation! Thought provoking and active involvement rather intriguing.

Very interesting, understandable and simple. I enjoyed the two days of training. I am definitely going to use this method of teaching. Our instructor was well equipped and able to answer our questions. It is a new way forward.

It really was an eye opener to attend such a workshop. I realised the sounds I never knew before. This is going to help our children a lot! Keep it up!

THRASS has really broadened my understanding of the English language. It has made me realise that there is so much more to learn and even though I am an adult there is so much out there and that the world is our oyster. I truly believe to read is to learn and to learn is to live.

The THRASS workshop has been very informative. I have benefited from this workshop.

This training course was absolutely brilliant and well presented! Very interesting and makes a lot of sense to use THRASS in schools.

I really enjoyed this. I know that learners will enjoy it as they can be very active; with them being active they learn and remember more. I really think this course should be held over a longer period, so we can go in depth a little more. She was very interesting to listen to and kept our attention.

Exciting, dynamic, well presented! And all round brilliant. Special thanks to Laola, Leroy and Nick!

THRASS has been a breath of fresh air to our schooling system. Initially there will be a trial and error method until perfection is reached. However the system introduced makes recognising reading and writing words more logical in terms of sounds and recognition of actual words. I am sure it will be beneficial to all learners in all grades. Laola has been a dynamic presenter and her instructions were well received and digested. Thank you to ABSA for this opportunity.

Very dynamic and interesting! Will definitely be exciting to teach, especially to second language learners! The Sing-a-Longs are definitely going to help learners to learn to read and pronounce words. It was certainly an eye opener for me to learn the 44 phonemes.

Laola, an excellent job done! Well done! Very informative. The facilitator is dynamic, energetic and knowledgeable of the contents of THRASS. Was a privilege to attend this two day workshop as we have learnt a great deal which we will impart on our learners who will be the real beneficiaries of this program! Thank you to the THRASS team and thank you to ABSA for sponsoring our school with this delightful program. May God richly bless you for this gift you have given us.

I thoroughly enjoyed the presentation. It was amazing to see just how dynamic this program can be. I enjoyed the interaction and gained a wealth of knowledge from students, peers as well as Laola! I can’t wait to start this program with my learners. Thank you to ABSA for this opportunity and to Laola for explaining the program, which was done so well. It was very much enjoyed and educational as well!

A dynamic presenter. I enjoyed her step by step methods. It was quite easy to grasp. The resources used were excellent! Laola was always willing to answer questions. She was clear, concise and very dedicated. She always had my full attention. Thank you Laola for an extremely informative presentation, you are an inspiration to all learners and educators.

The presentation: Energetic, clear although the trainer sometimes spoke to fast for second language speakers. Good response to questions could have been a bit more interactive, active, audience centred at times. Technology: Pity the interactive features did not work, though this was out of the trainer’s control. Good display of materials. Thank you for the resources. Methodology: As a method for teaching phonics, challenged traditional approaches quite fundamentally and the trainer dealt with questions about this. As a method of teaching and reading, focuses on word level work, and did not sufficiently situate this in context of reading as a meaning, make up activity. I fear that the focus on a methodology for phonics could undermine efforts to get teachers to approach reading.

Lovely course, dynamic and interactive presentation! I am passionate about the teaching of reading and I am certain that THRASS will help reach the high levels of illiteracy we face in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

I am eagerly following developments in schools. I intend to study all material provided in the course carefully and look at how best it can be implemented at Kwa-Zulu Natal schools.

Fantastic course! I enjoyed the THRASS workshop tremendously. Laola you have enriched me and extended my knowledge. I am now going to present exciting lessons to my learners, thanks to you and THRASS. Thank you to ABSA for the sponsorship. God Bless!

A well presented course. The facilitator was excellent and highly approachable and knowledgeable about THRASS. Thanks to ABSA for the sponsorship!
