GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS TWO-DAY CERTIFICATE,
NORTHUMBERLAND, FEB 26-27, 2007

Portable Document Format

Excellent course, which put previous knowledge into perspective and provided me with the information and skills needed to help teach reading. Lots of useful ideas and games, which will make learning fun.

A comprehensive literacy course which has inspired me to go back to school and persuade our Headteacher to adopt the strategy.

Enjoyed the course, well presented. Thank you Hilary. Really looking forward to seeing the impact of THRASS on our school. A very useful way of thinking about how phonemes translate into graphemes and visa versa. Fantastic visual map of sounds.

A really interesting course! It has given me a great deal of insight into the teaching of reading and spelling. I am sure I will be able to use lots of the ideas. The course was delivered really well in an enthusiastic and interesting way. Very inspiring!

Phonics teaching presented in a clear and logical way in THRASS programme. It gives meaning for children in that they are equipped to ‘have a go’ at new words rather than making wild guesses. The Phoneme Machine looks really useful for pupils and teachers – the lips are brilliant! The two days have flown past thanks to the material and Hilary’s lively presentation. Really enjoyed it.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the course and can’t wait to introduce THRASS to the children at my school. Hilary made the course fun and interesting.

Fun, challenging, new – a big eye-opener! Excellently presented – I wish we could adopt it as a whole school venture. I look forward to starting in a small way and hopefully take others on board in my school. I also look forward to our children coming in to upper KS2 having been taught THRASS.

Enjoyed the two days very much. Made learning fun with lots of practical examples. Looking forward to trying this out at school.

Excellent and very interesting course. I really enjoyed it and have learnt lots from it. I am going away from it inspired. Hilary you were so easy to listen to, thank you.

This was a very useful reminder of my lost knowledge about spelling. It tied together underpinning theory and practical strategies to use in school. Thank you for your energy and enthusiasm for your subject Hilary.

Very quick paced and lively course. Delivered well. Interesting and informative. I am looking forward to delivering this to the children.

It has made me rethink the use of phonics already in use and opened up a whole new concept, that can be used as a continuum throughout the school.

I have found the course interesting in how children learn to read and spell.

Have found this course a brilliant learning tool and will be using it throughout Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. It has made me look at different strategies to teach literacy skills.

An excellent well delivered course, which was very informative. The resources are excellent particularly the software. There are such a wide variety of games to help make learning fun. This programme would appeal to all types of learners (VAK).

This was my introduction to teaching kids reading and writing skills in a ‘formal’ manner and I found it fascinating. The resources appear appropriate and stimulating and I can see how this can be targeted at the SEN children I work with.

Excellent course, well planned, organised and resourced. Lots of great tips for fun ways to teach. Very good clarification of my own knowledge which has helped me to evaluate and re-organise my teaching.

Hilary was a lovely presenter – full of enthusiasm. The first day was much better than the second. It was more practical and kept my interest. The second day was more detailed, lots of information given as talk from the front. There was a lot to fit in and perhaps not quite enough time for ‘tricky’ questions. Lots of good resources and ideas. Will use this as part of literacy. I still worry that there is a lot for children to learn and am unsure they need to know it all.

Very good course – excellent to actually do some work on teaching reading, phonemes, graphemes etc. Some really exciting things to take back to the classroom. Often these things stop before they get to KS2 but the children will love this.

A most interesting and enjoyable training course which was actually great fun too! Hilary made the two days fly by with constant banter and her obvious heartfelt enthusiasm for the subject.
