GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS ACCREDITED CERTIFICATE, EASTERN CAPE, SA, APRIL 18-19, 2008

Portable Document Format

A great course that really makes sense! I really can see THRASS being of great value to improving learners reading and spelling. I wish I had learnt this at university!

I am very excited about THRASS! My own children are using it at school and are enjoying it very much. Laola is an excellent presenter and had us all interested.

Excellently presented! Presenter was lively, entertaining, had a good sense of humour and presented everything very clearly.

A well presented course. I think it is a well worth course. Very exciting and hopefully I will be able to implement THRASS to my grade 1 – grade 3 with confidence.

A fantastic concept, really taking the lid off spelling! I am excited about implementing THRASS with my children. A well prepared and dynamic presentation!

Enjoyed it very much. A wonderful concept and recommended that our school buys into the programme. Time flew - a sign that the course was most enjoyable and I became properly involved!

Thank you for the wonderful opportunity to learn about THRASS. I think you are doing a wonderful thing in spreading THRASS and teaching teachers a new way of phonics, writing and language.

Thank you for a very informative course. I feel well equipped now to teach the THRASS programme. Looking forward to a good working relationship and great results!

Very informative! Learnt lots! I can’t wait to use it in my classroom. Well presented, challenged my brain power. Worth every cent! Thank you so much.

Very interesting, I can’t wait to get started! Presented very well!

I was impressed with Laola and the manner in which she did her presentation. She has persuaded me to promote THRASS in our grade 1 class. I have the opportunity of having to convince my J.P department to follow through with this incredible programme.

Really well presented - time flew! We need another course refresher for our teachers as other teachers are not as enthusiastic or motivated to teach THRASS. Need training to motivate a whole school initiative to ensure it is being taught from pre grade to grade 7. I think we’ll benefit from your guidance. Teachers will need guidance on a more regular and consistent basis.

Insightful. I would like to see the effectiveness of the THRASS implemented. It would have been nice to receive further print outs. UNISA should use it in their material.

I enjoyed the course very much. Quite a lot to take in! I think it would work in the classroom, but must be implemented as a whole school. Maybe difficult to get everyone on board!

Really enjoy the way it all links together (spelling, phonics and handwriting). Excited to use it in class. Handwriting is much better than ball and sticks! Love the resources, but they are costly for rural schools? Day 2 made more sense when it all came together. Children are going to love it.

Very informative and an exciting new approach to teaching reading, writing and spelling! This way makes a lot of sense in teaching phonics and reading to my children and it’s going to be fun. We will have to do plenty of fundraising as it is a bit costly.

It was very informative. I became very aware of needing to go through correct usage of phonemes and correct pronunciation. It is important to be good models for the children. I learned a lot about making the links with language usage and to build on prior knowledge and use resources. The resources are good and I like that there is always charts to refer to! I like that THRASS is a holistic approach to language.

Very informative, logic set out with a modern approach. e.g. rap songs.

I enjoyed the course very much! Being Afrikaans speaking I have a lot to learn, but it makes more sense to me now. I will certainly try this, thanks! Well presented.

Well worth!

The way to go! Come visit us at our unique farm school!

Wonderful course, very well presented

Enjoyed it! Makes a lot of sense, thanks for your inspiration! Very good!

Laola is like a breath of fresh air and speaks from a wealth of practical knowledge and great passion! It will be interesting to try this method with my pupils, it certainly makes more sense. It was a lot to take in and requires a complete mind shift!

Excellent but we will need to process it as a start!

Very good and informative! Will use it but still reluctant to let go of my mind map way of teaching sounds. [“Both the THRASS Picturechart and Graphemechart are mind maps!” Alan Davies]

Definitely more beneficial than the other courses I have attended recently. Some great ideas and very interesting two days! I am not convinced that our current system is that flawed, charts and programme can be confusing with all the abbreviations especially for the untrained. I think the materials are quite expensive and that will affect implementation.

Very Good presentation! The presenter was excellent, very interesting, insightful information. Look forward to implementing some of the ideas into my teaching. However it is important not to ‘throw the baby out with the bath water’.

Better than any government run courses! Lots of good points and ideas, but not convinced our current system is ineffective enough to warrant the huge expense and change. That is, the course itself is very good and makes sense but so is ours!

Very worth while course can see how it would work very well in schools. May be difficult for our type of children initially.

Found the THRASS information very insightful and I am looking forward to implementing in my own class, and throughout our school. Really enjoyed watching the videos of what others are doing.

Thank you so much! I found this very informative and interesting, what was particularly helpful was the practical implementation of THRASS in any classroom.
