GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS ACCREDITED CERTIFICATE,
GTG, SOUTH AFRICA, JULY 27-29, 2006

Portable Document Format

I have recently done much Internet research on Phoneme/Grapheme awareness and came upon the THRASS site through this exploration – What a discovery! I feel that THIS is the answer to empower both facilitators and learners, particularly our learners, who experience barriers to learning. I will be researching the progress of the different pupils, depending on their specific barriers with bated breath! Your enthusiasm and knowledge touched me profoundly. God bless you.

Fantastic course! I have seen THRASS working in my class and I look forward to implementing the new ideas during my lessons. The concepts and ideas of THRASS are easy to understand and were explained very well by Laola. Thank you for a fantastic three days.

A very interesting course – an eye-opener. It addressed a number of issues and problems I have experienced teaching phonics on the Letterland system in the Grade R class. An exciting concept that I will go out and repeat at our school. Thank you so much.

I think that it was a wonderful course to attend. As a speech therapist, I could only assist my children to a certain extent, i.e. with phoneme-grapheme correspondence, analysis and synthesis (auditory). I struggled to develop their reading and spelling skills. Now I feel empowered to assist my learners.

Very exciting concept. Well presented. Thank you.

Presentation of course was logical and progressive, and provided tools and support activities to implement the programme. It was informative and reinforced the need to provide choices when teaching. I am an independent nursery school, specialising in Early Childhood Development and feeding pupils on to schools where THRASS has already been implemented. This course has provided an opportunity for me to provide the building blocks and skills required in order for the method to be followed through. Laola was energetic, passionate and inspiring. I thoroughly enjoyed the course. I am also involved in training teachers in the informal settlement, who have not yet obtained qualifications in Early Childhood Development and feel that exposure to this course will be invaluable to these facilitators.

Very interesting. Excellent presentation. Laola was excellent in her explanation of everything. It will be a challenge to start with it at school.

I found it very interesting. Throughout the three days I have learnt a lot of things I did not know before. Laola is a friendly person and if I had a chance to come back again, I would.

I loved the course so much and I do hope that this will be the best in our children’s future, as it has a lot of fun stuff for the young ones. I do believe that if I start now, we are going to have more important persons in the world. Laola is a great teacher. Whatever she did with us, she showed interest, was always smiling and made sure that we understood every little thing we did.

Thank you, Laola, for a most elucidating presentation given with verve and enthusiasm. A fresh new approach to teaching reading, writing and spelling to our LSEN learners. Apart from being very insightful, it was also inspiring. I will certainly use THRASS wherever I go – after retirement as well.

A very informative course. Loved every bit of it. It makes English much more understanding from an Afrikaans point of view. Laola was terrific and very patient answering questions and going back and explaining again. Well done!

Extremely interesting. Hopefully, a light at the end of the tunnel to help with our spelling, reading and handwriting problems. Very helpful, both as a teacher and a parent. My child has all three problematic areas. The whole system makes so much more sense than other systems I have seen/or taught. Thanks so much!

Fantastic! It all makes a lot of sense. The multi-sensory approach facilitates learning in a fun way, that consolidates the right information! I am excited to implement this! Laola is a good presenter and knows what she is talking about. This has broadened my perspective and inspired me!

I enjoyed the course. Laola is a very good spokesperson, dynamic. Would like to start using it, especially with the younger children. Unsure of implementation with higher grades. Appears to be very useful.

It was a wonderful experience to see how the English language and spelling actually jells together. I cannot wait to start and I am positive, the result will be great. Laola presented it in such a positive way, with great enthusiasm. The writing of the letters poses a problem, as our font is ‘normal’ print (whole school), but I will be implementing Sassoon as soon as I get the go-ahead from the HOD. School policy will have to change.

I found the course informative, enlightening and utterly inspiring. It’s as if there’s a light at the end of the tunnel and I feel filled with hope that I will at last be able to offer my learners a sensible system. Laola’s presentation was excellent.

I thought the course was excellent. A new, more effective way for teaching handwriting, reading and spelling. I am looking forward to implementing this in the classroom. Laola is brilliant. I loved it.

Course was very enjoyable – definitely a paradigm shift. Would like to see a similar programme for Afrikaans.

Extremely interesting and helpful. I believe children with learning problems will benefit from THRASS. Laola’s presentation was lively and comprehensive.

I found the course very worthwhile. It was well presented and very informative. I feel children will really benefit from this method. It makes children more willing to try and less scared of failure, as English spelling and reading is not as prescriptive and enigmatic as before.

It was a very interesting, stimulating course. This method makes so much sense. Resources, material are well thought over. Laola is an interesting, lively, enthusiastic presenter who believes in THRASS.

I liked and enjoyed the new way in which English, I believe, will be taught currently and in the future.

I have learnt that no matter how much you learn, there is still more to learn. I enjoyed the THRASS course because I know that I can teach my kids how to read, write and speak proper English. Laola is very interesting and informative. She taught me that there is a lot more to the English language. It was an eye opener and I thank you for the opportunity for learning more.

Very enlightening – makes it easier to understand reading, writing and spelling of English, as it is such a complex language. This is a wonderful tool that could be invaluable to all teachers and learners. Thank you so much and good luck for future endeavours.

What a pity I only learnt about this method so late. I found it fascinating – excellent and informative.
