GUIDED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS AND PARENTS

THRASS TWO-DAY CERTIFICATE,
ACCRA, GHANA, SEPT  18-19, 2006

Portable Document Format

The whole THRASS programme has been an eye-opener and also has given me a lot of ideas which will go a long way to enhance my teaching skills. I must say I have enjoyed it. It has really pushed me to vary my techniques in teaching. Above all, I think learning the right phonemes and graphemes was excellent and I will make sure my children benefit fully from this workshop.

Full of good information that has been exclusively designed to update my general knowledge of education especially in teaching English basics. The two-day course was made very lively by Hilary’s (“The Queen of THRASS”) personality. Her presentations were fantastic. She is a “real teacher”. Thank you Hilary. Thumbs up Papa Davies!

It was very informative and lively. What I noticed was that this programme had an underlying thread which was to make learning fun for all. I would recommend it to all those who are interested in a programme of this nature and the fact that it is continually extended and made more comprehensive is a good thing. R & D appears to be key. Good job!

It is a wonderful programme. I am working in a school following the British Curriculum. We were using the Jolly Phonics programme. Now when Hilary has introduced this course to me I intend switching over to THRASS from Jolly Phonics. It was great! Thankyou. I intend working with local schools to get more practical knowledge on THRASS.

Very useful. Lots of new information to apply to teaching. Hilary makes the training very lively; with all the information to cram in two days, it would have been boring or rather tedious if it was not so lively and interesting. Thanks a ton, Hilary. It would be helpful to give tips on how to help older children (11-14 years) with reading and spelling difficulties.

In fact this THRASS programme has exposed me to another level of teaching. I have really learnt a lot about how to use my phonemes and graphemes very well. I’ve really enjoyed the programme very well. God bless THRASS teachers.

The course was very interesting and educative. It taught me so many new things in the English language which will benefit my pupils greatly. Hope to participate in it whenever the opportunity comes again. This course has improved my speaking and writing skills.

It’s been a very useful course. A longer duration might be better and fully cover content more comprehensively. The best method of teaching phonics so far.

This course has been very helpful but the duration was quite short considering the content. Very resourceful instructor.

The THRASS course has been very beneficial to me as far as teaching and speaking English is concerned. As a nursery teacher, this course will enhance my teaching techniques. I hope to participate whenever the opportunity comes again.

Well done and organised.

This was a most enjoyable course and very well presented in an open, cheerful, friendly manner. It was very clearly presented and fully packed. Perhaps two days was a bit short, maybe three days would have been better. I hope to use the knowledge learnt and that I can receive support in the future, in terms of explanations etc. Thank you for a wonderful training.

The THRASS programme has been very, very beneficial. I have learnt new ideas with which I hope to tackle some problems efficiently. Presentation was down to earth though I’ve not been able to grasp everything. I must admit too, that it was overwhelming.

The content:- Very detailed and lots more to be done by individual. Wealth of resources. Longer day with extra breaks could be useful. Interactive participation very interesting and fun. Overall, very useful programme.

This is my second time of going through the THRASS programme. I noticed a lot of additions. I have a better understanding of the content and methodology in handling the THRASS. I believe I would improve upon my teaching of phonemes. The course has been very beneficial.

The THRASS programme has given me new ideas on how to go about my teaching of reading and writing. I am going to use the new ideas effectively to create conducive atmosphere in my classroom. Have really enjoyed it and it has been a blessing to me. Thanks to the organisers of this programme.

The two-day course began with an introduction of the tutor as Hilary Davies, being the resource person. She introduced us to the letters of the alphabet and how the letters should be effectively taught for every child to know the letters and also learn to identify them. She stressed that the English language has 44 sounds, which she said every letter has it’s own function. The resource person introduced us to the THRASS Picture Chart which is divided into two parts namely, the vowel part and the consonant part. There are 24 consonant sounds and 20 vowel sounds. I also learnt about graphemes which deals with the spelling choice whilst the phoneme deals with the speech in sound.

Generally, the two-day course on THRASS was very successful. It has, however, afforded me the opportunity to teach English language very well in a different dimension. THRASS exposes the children to interesting ways of teaching. It is an all-in-one package to open ones mind about teaching and learning of English language as in handwriting, reading and spelling skills. Thank you Hilary!

I admire your systematic process of the THRASS programme. You have done a good job of the presentation too. Now the challenge is how to master the programme myself and then train my colleagues. I will be in touch with you. A good job!
