Laola presented the course with enthusiasm,
confidence and background knowledge. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire course and
have learnt a huge amount – a new sense of awareness and “shift” in looking at
how I was taught. A learning curve is expected next year!
Very exciting and valuable. Have much to learn and would value continued
support.
Thoroughly enjoyable. Very interesting and informative - like to follow through
with another course!
After two full, interesting days a piece of me wants to go back to the beginning
and to start all over again! Now that I feel more comfortable about the whole
THRASS concept, I think that I may have missed so much of what was said in the
beginning! Thank you for making sense of the latest ‘buzz’ word. I look forward
to implementing it next year.
A lot to think about! I am definitely sold on the idea. Enjoyable. The many
‘breaks’ were good.
Very interesting and exciting. I learnt a lot (and have much to learn!). Good
for introducing THRASS.
I have learnt a lot in the past two days, especially since I am senior primary
trained and clued up on phonics learning. It was quite overwhelming because a
lot has to be absorbed over a short period of time. I would like to observe more
practical applications from here onwards to establish how it is implemented in
the classroom. All in all, quite enjoyable.
I now have an adequate theoretical overview but a more practical, hands on
approach should be used e.g. 1 day theory overview (we can read further if
necessary) then 1 day watching and discussing lessons in action e.g. a lesson
introducing the rap or picture location or using video clips.
Interesting method certainly worth following up. Good theoretical/application
training. Well done!
Information presented over a two day period was valid and diverse. THRASS is a
teaching approach that I would like to implement. I do feel that it could have
been presented in a clearer, more logical, step by step way, possibly in half
the time. It was confusing to deal with Stage 8 on day one.
Adequate overview. Further research will be done at school as a group.
The THRASS methodology is sound and I agree with the philosophy behind THRASS. I
do feel a more practical approach to the course is needed, whereby the theory is
taught and then a workshop is held in which we watch a demonstration and then
use the products.
Adequate overview. THRASS could stand for articulation instead of ‘and’.
Auditory skills are very important for implementation of this and so are
articulatory skills. R- not enough time spent on reading development. This is a
spelling scheme and not enough development of other skills as name would
indicate. Good Phonic base – very similar to Phonographix
I personally need to implement in order for me to be able to comment effectively
(A tried and tested thing). Content a little confusing at times – especially
information printed in dictionary. Do not understand methods for various
activities (rationale in doing certain things – Rap song).
I found the THRASS concept very exciting for the development of the auditory
awareness and skills in our modern children, who are usually taught in a visual
way. Looking forward to implementing it. Your enthusiasm is catching. The video
was not very valuable at this point. With Gratitude.
Very informative and relevant. I have learnt a lot about sounds, spelling etc.
and am keen to implement it. The theory was also informative and was delivered
well. I would be interested in seeing any video of THRASS being taught in other
schools. Thank you for taking time to teach us!
Overall enjoyable, but daunting! Theoretically very solid – however more
practical implementation needs to be demonstrated.
I found the course very beneficial and I think that THRASS seems wonderful. It’s
a bit daunting to implement everything that we have been taught. I would like to
see video footage of other schools and how they have implemented THRASS.
The THRASS methodology is a good concept and there are lots of good ideas. Staff
who have been trained in other systems will have to make a paradigm shift! I do
feel that a more practical, hands on approach would have been appreciated.
