05: ROSE REVIEW FINAL REPORT

Independent Review of the
Teaching of Early Reading

Final Report, Jim Rose, March 2006
Department for Education and Skills
(DfES), London, England

This 100+ page report includes a great deal of sensible advice based on the observations made by Jim Rose and his team. The full report can be downloaded  at the foot of this page.

As part of the review, people were interviewed and schools were visited. Jim Rose, himself, visited one of the schools using THRASS:

He spoke to me in depth about THRASS, watched THRASS being taught and spoke to teachers and support staff. I shared the evidence we had of the impact of THRASS - which is particularly marked in KS1. I also emphasised the importance of whole school training and of having a long-term commitment to THRASS. It was a very positive visit lasting about an hour and a half. I believe he left with a very positive impression of THRASS and said that he was impressed by what he had seen.

Alan Davies was also interviewed by Jim Rose, as one of the people providing the ‘oral evidence’. This communication is not to reproduce....
