This desk size, encapsulated, double-sided (tumble turn) chart (297mm x 210mm,A4 size, landscape format), features phoneme-boxes and graphemes. The act of overwriting the correct grapheme for a word that has been incorrectly spelled, helps the learner recall the spelling choice and recognise it when reading. If a letter or letter string is a Grapheme Catch-All or NPS (Not Playing Sensibly) letter string, learners use the letter-boxes side that has the instruction, ‘Trace over the letters and GCAs’. To practise the segmentation and blending of phonemes in words, use a dry- wipe pen to trace over the relevant graphemes in the correct phoneme-boxes. Naming the letters will practice spelling (that is, changing phonemes to graphemes).Accurately articulating the phonemes will practise reading (that is, changing graphemes to phonemes). Identifying the words on the PICTURECHART (T-02 or T-03) will practice analogy, (that is, making a comparison between similar words).
