SING-A-LONG BOOK

S-01

All the SING-A-LONG resources have been Created & Designed by Alan Davies with help from Janine Plunkett, Mike Meade, Terry Allen and Hilary Davies.

Use this colourful 96-page book with your children to learn about the 44 sounds (phonemes) and 120 main spelling choices (keygraphemes) of English.

This book should be used with the SING-A-LONG CD (sold separately), which is a double CD with over 2 hours of music, that is, 45 vocal tracks and 45 instrumental tracks - 90 tracks! Sing-a-long with the tracks, again and again, until your children are so familiar with the songs that they are able to point underneath the words in this book and read them.

Encourage your children to point underneath the main spelling choices for each of the sounds. Then ask them to search for the same spelling choices, and even new spelling choices for the same sound, on the other pages. Encourage them to ‘point underneath and name’ the letter or letters in the spelling choice (to practise spelling) before saying the sound that is represented (reading).

Parents, grandparents, pre-school staff and teachers (and speech and language therapists) can use these resources to develop essential speaking, listening, reading and spelling skills in children. Older children can also use the resources to have fun with and teach their younger brothers and sisters.

Janine Plunkett
The words and music for SING-A-LONG have been written by Janine Plunkett, based on the wording, advice and guidance in Alan Davies’ TEACHING THRASS (T-50), with particular reference to the THRASS Picturechart (desk and class size). Janine, her husband and their two children live in South Africa. She has a Masters Degree in Music and was formerly Head of Music at Holy Rosary School in Johannesburg and now works as a consultant running THRASS MOVE-A-LONG WITH SING-A-LONG workshops in South Africa and other countries. In 2006 Janine was diagnosed with breast cancer and, in 2007, when she was recovering from surgery and chemotherapy she met Alan at a two-day THRASS course. Since that time, Alan has worked with Janine, with key contributions from others, to produce the SING-A-LONG resources.
