THRASS TWO-DAY CERTIFICATE,
DAY 2, BARNET, LONDON, JAN 12, 2005

Portable Document Format

Absolutely wonderful. You have amazing energy and clarity. I am so thrilled we have had a second day to reinforce and rehearse the content/methods of THRASS. You have inspired us to continue to develop this clear and logical approach to literacy in our schools. Thank you.

Very interesting and informative Day. Very good resources.

Excellent course, well presented. Good reinforcement session.

Once again the presentation of THRASS was excellent. A perfect balance of overlearning and the introduction of new materials, theory and practise. It is good to learn new knowledge but to be able to apply this to the classroom. I wish I had Hilary’s energy, sense of humour and warmth.

Good reinforcement of initial course. We were given lots of ideas for games and activities to use across the age range and also with children with EAL. speech problems etc. Presentation modelled how to introduce THRASS to children. There were also additional tips about equipment. (Why don’t you use the words ‘schwa’ and ‘neutral vowel’?)

I found the second day an excellent follow-up to the first. Having started THRASS, the second inset was much clearer. I feel it would work better with the whole class. With small groups 15 minutes a day the lesson is very rushed. 1-1 works well. I’m sure once it’s fully in place it will help specific children Exciting programme.

I found it very helpful to go over what we learnt on Day 1. It does seem to make more sense now, although I found the afternoon session a bit heavy going. I found Hilary made it very interesting and I’m looking forward to putting what I’ve learnt into practice.

The 2 Day course has been brilliant. Hilary is really thorough with her tutoring. I did feel that the course was a bit heavy going but enjoyable. I hope that I will be able to teach THRASS to our children with as much enthusiasm as Hilary did and that I will be able to do it justice. It does need a lot of practise and patience. Thanks very much.

A very interesting and valuable second session which will support the work we are doing on THRASS. While the morning session was useful as a revision tool I found the afternoon particularly stimulating at a personal level.

Excellent presentation – very enjoyable. Resources are extremely clear/helpful. Have started THRASS with Year 3 and Year 4 group, up to T6 so today’s course has been really helpful. Children love it!

The second day has really helped to consolidate the first day. The afternoon session has helped me to see where I’m going and how the earlier stages fit in to the whole approach. Hilary’s suggestions for work with a Y6 boy were particularly useful. I hope I will ultimately be able to emulate Hilary’s delivery.

Excellent delivery. Was glad for the chance to recap some of Day One. Good chance to see the materials available. I haven’t had chance to use this with pupils yet, but I feel it would be very helpful indeed.

I found both days of the course extremely informative. It answers so many questions about problems children have when spelling and is also at a general level interesting. I especially like the word rap. I work with a variety of children at different levels of learning English and feel this would really benefit them if only for the pictures with a view to extending their vocabulary.

I find THRASS useful, but I must say I need lots of practice to be able to teach. Hilary is brilliant and enjoyable and I thoroughly enjoyed her teaching. Thankyou.

I feel the whole idea of THRASS makes much more sense than ‘traditional’ methods of teaching reading and spelling. The basis of THRASS was covered thoroughly by Hilary. A model of how to begin the lessons, especially for older primary children might be useful. (I know it’s all in the book, but spoon feeding and Hilary’s clear explanation would make things easier). I will contact THRASS to ask some further advice about EAL children and how to implement it. Thankyou.

Excellent. It was very informative. It will benefit a wide variety of children I work with who have special needs.

Very informative. Good consolidation of prior knowledge and extension for ideas. Also, having had time to read through all the material, I found today very practical – lots of ideas to take back and use in the classroom. Also, I liked the ideas to further extend the more able children. A very interesting and enjoyable day. Thank you.
